Abortion news

It would seem that events are moving a bit faster than I anticipated. We have one Supreme Court ruling, unanimous at that, regarding a case that has been a thorn  in the side of the prolife movement for several decades.

Supreme Court Backs Abortion Protesters

The Supreme Court dealt a setback Tuesday to abortion clinics in a two-decade-old legal fight over abortion protests, ruling that federal extortion and racketeering laws cannot be used to ban demonstrations.

[...]

While I am pleased with the decision, I hope that protesters don't fall back to the tactic of blockading clinics. Such actions only drew attention to the protesters, and not in a favorable manner. This made it easy for those on the pro-choice and pro-abortion sides to easily demonize the tactics and draw attention away from what the issue was really about.

Still, it is impressive that the court ruled unanimously. We can easily imagine the uproar that would occur if PETA or some other protesting group had RICO applied against them. Despite their violence, cries of free speech would abound and do much to shame any consistent application of this statute. That lack of consistency and suppression of political speech has now been corrected.

Hopefully, prolifers will learn from the experience and conduct rallies that don't block clinics but merely prayerfully provide information concerning options, for those who dealing with an unplanned pregnancy. I argued this some years ago here.

Michelle Malkin is the go to girl with links to reaction in the blogosphere, the oral argument transcript and Breyer's opinion.

Also in the news, is the ban on abortion that has passed both houses in South Dakota.

Abortion ban bill heads to South Dakota governor

PIERRE, South Dakota (AP) -- State lawmakers voted Friday to ban nearly all abortions in South Dakota and sent the measure to the governor, who said he is inclined to sign it.

Under the legislation, doctors in South Dakota would face up to five years in prison for performing an abortion unless it was necessary to save the woman's life.

Clearly, this is a test aimed at the U.S. Supreme Court. I think it may be too soon for such a far reaching law, though it may take a few years to reach the court and perhaps another justice will be nominated by then. Still, there is no provision for rape or incest, which are the most controversial, though statistics have shown that such abortions account for very low (single digit) percentages of all abortions. While my view is that how a pregancy came about, does not affect the value of the preborn, we must consider the current cultural and political environment and what is necessary for the most lasting change, not just in law, but also in the cultural zeitgiest. This may simply be too much for many to accept, especially when abortions for such circumstances can be reduced by other means, i.e. strengthening laws, the enforcement of such laws, crisis pregnancy counseling and support, as well as other methods that can reduce rape and incest and the emotional trauma that leaves some considering only abortion for the innocent life they carry.

Hopefully, as I have argued here, parallel actions will be enacted as this moves through the courts. This could help move society to change from within, rather than just prohibit by law what a generation has grown up thinking is a right, that must not be assailed. Sadly, for many, the artificial stiching of the word right, to the term abortion, when that words is even used, has been an effective form of propoganda in shaping people's views. We need to use wisdom and patience to overcome what has been so long assumed by many and become a calcified belief, and consider the power of love and compassion in changing such views.

Finally, there will be much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth from the usual suspects, primarily NARAL and the Diane Feinstein type politicians. It is only one state, at this point, yet apocalyptic visions will be presented ad infinitum, in an attempt to sway public opinion. Supposing that the court does allow South Dakota's restrictions to stand, does this mean every state will do the same? Hardly, and no one, even those on the non pro-life side think that will happen. So, why not put their money where there mouth is? Such is constantly thrown at those of us who are against abortion. Let's see those who think responsibility should be avoided at all costs, help those who cannot afford to do so, go to other states that still allow the procedures. I seriously doubt that all fifty states will ever completely ban abortion for any and every circumstance.

Will the South Dakota ban stand a Supreme Court review? I have no idea, but I feel public resistance could be reduced with some of what I have recommended and that certainly wouldn't hurt the case when it's before the court. For my part, I'll try to get this post to South Dakota legislators. Of course I'm nobody important, but sometimes, even small actions, can have greater results than anyone could have anticipated. I encourage others who are prolife to do what they can, to help move society in a better direction, one that respects life, even while it is in the womb, seeing it not as a responsibility to avoid but as an opportunity to love and nuture an innocent life.

Yes, there is a God

I'm bringing this post to the top because it's been featured in Radars' Darwin is Dead-The Carnival!!! and has attracted some attention. Scroll down for the latest posts.

Yes, there is a God

Because the universe is either eternal or came from nothing.

I hope no one seriously considers something from nothing in this day and age.

An eternal universe is not possible either. You cannot count to infinity. No matter how long you count you will always have a finite set of numbers. Likewise, you cannot have an infinite series of events into the past. You would never reach a beginning, because no matter how long you traveled, you would only traverse a finite set of events. Even worse though, for the universe to reach the present. There being no beginning at all, there is no hope of reaching the present as it is preceded by an infinite series of events and there is no starting point to begin to try and cross this series.

But the universe has in fact reached the present. It therefore must have a beginning. What has a beginning has a cause. We must, at some point reach an uncaused first cause, due to the discussion about infinite series.

This uncaused first cause must somehow act to create the causal chain that is the universe. But how can it do so? Nothing precedes it and causes it to do so. The answer is that the first cause, has free will internal to itself and decides to act.

We have now reached a transcendent cause that has free-will and therefore personality. At this point we cannot assume we are safe from this entity acting within its own creation. Deism is an assumption at best a wish.

From this point, we can objectively examine the historical data, religious experience and philosophy to guide us. Regarding the Christian data, the Biblical testimony about Christ was established far to close to his ministry to allow for legendary embellishment.

The entire Biblical witness speaks of God as three persons in one ultimate unit.

For these reasons, I believe there is one God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Ted Rall - his name should be a profanity

Just when you think Ted Rall can't maintain his status as idiot and jackass extraordinaire, we get more ejaculations of noxious scribbling from this less than talented "cartoonist".

And because he really does deserve it Darleen has an excellent parody of this *insert profane rant here*

I've said plenty in the past about this twat. From previous posts:

Considering the content of that "comic", one has to wonder if the little twit is simply jealous (scroll down) and has to release his frustrations this way because he suffers from excessive dermal abrasion doing it in the traditional manner.

He is either flirting with becoming a holocaust denier or he is merely braying for attention as only a spoiled, maladjusted, childish and mentally deficient jackass can.

I may need to become fluent in another language in order to continue justly describing this individual and the disgusting depths to which his soul must descend. It would be much simpler if his name entered the cultural ziegeist as a profane utterance.

Dubai port deal - a decade too late

Or so goes some of the criticism being thrown around by various politicians. It's hardly unexpected that certain Demoncraps would try to glom on to national security as an issue, though they've been doing plenty to make such efforts more difficult with their harping against racial profiling, so-called "domestic" eavesdropping and whatever else they can stir up in obedience to the most radical moonbats who have hijacked the party.

While a review of the port deal is reasonable, we should all make sure that whatever side we are on, we do not spread misconceptions or outright lies. As for my decades too late comment, that is covered in an article by Jim Geraghty at NRO. Along with corrections to the misinformation, he unfortunately has to point out that some Republicans are being led by the nose and repeating the same errors. Sadly, spineless, and the stupid party, are appellations once again being confirmed by such actions.

AN ORGANIZED DISINFORMATION CAMPAIGN ON THE PORT DEAL (emphasis added in bold)

[...]

There are plenty of folks on the GOP side of the aisle repeating and spreading the lies. But check out the comments on the other side of the aisle.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton:

“Senator Menendez and I don’t think any foreign government company should be running our ports, managing, leasing, owning, operating. It just raises too many red flags. That is the nub of our complaints,” said Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., speaking via teleconference in response to Bush’s announcement.

As reported in USA Today, 80 percent of the terminals in the Port of Los Angeles are run by foreign firms. And the U.S. Department of Transportation says the United Kingdom, Denmark, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, China and Taiwan have interests in U.S. port terminals. The blogger Sweetness and Light observed that the National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia, which is partially owned by the government of Saudi Arabia as well as Saudi individuals and establishments, operates berths in the ports of Baltimore, Newport News, Houston, New Orleans, Savannah, Wilmington, N.C., Port Newark, New Jersey, and Brooklyn, New York. (The link has an inadvertently haunting photo, BTW.)

The argument from Democrats now that “foreigners” shouldn’t be operating U.S. ports is either protectionism, xenophobia, or both. And it is at least a decade late

Preceding this and further corrections he offers us this information that is not being mentioned by those throwing around dishonest criticism.

Clearly, this is a hot-button issue, and there are plenty of reasons for concern in the UAE’s past behavior, particularly before 9/11. Of course, we’re hearing from guys like Ret. Gen. Tommy Franks and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Peter Pace that UAE is “a friend” and “very, very solid partners” in the war on terror. And Sen. John Warner observed that the U.S. military has docked more than 500 ships in the past year in the UAE and uses their airfields to perform support missions for both Afghanistan and Iraq. But some folks still feel as if they can’t trust the UAE, and/or they want a fuller review. Fair enough. I don’t begrudge someone for having concerns about this deal.

Be sure to read the entire article. We can't have a reasonable discussion on this issue, nor decide on appropriate actions, if we allow ourselves to be carried away by political opportunism and errors on the level of propoganda or if we are led by the spineless cowardice as displayed by some in the GOP.

Dumb and dumber - only more so

Who woulda thunk it? A diary at the DailyKosNuts actually refers to the Gnostic gospels. I'm used to the various expressions of foolishness that tend to float around there in regard to politics; "screw them", probably being the best known example, with Mother Sheehan's post only emphasizing the battiness. It's sad enough that so many take this site as their "Bible" when it comes to politics, but let's see how it fairs regarding actual New Testament scholarship. (H/T Darleen's Place)

Blog Ads by ChitikaThe controversy over Jesus' story and its relation to the Gnostics began in 325AD at the Council of Nicea, an infamous date in human history when the gnostics, who were likely the philosophical foundation of the original Christians, were banned, persecuted, and murdered by the ancestors of today's Church: the martyr-obsessed orthodox christians [...] began their subversion of Jesus' story in earnest at this infamous Council...

[...]

we still live with the same centralized authority today, with the same tyrannous "christian" groups who want to persecute anyone who isn't in their cult. In other words, it was they who Jesus and St. Stephen railed against, and died fighting against as rebel leaders.

I'll dispense with the Gnostic foolishness by referring readers to the following concerning the Gospel of Thomas.

Thomas Gospel Tizzy

...(Gospel of Thomas) is "probably our earliest significant witness to the early perversion of Christianity by those who wanted to create Jesus in their own image." And: "Ultimately (GThom) testifies not to what Jesus said but to what men wished he had said."

What about the Gospel of Thomas?

Just a few points from the conlusion of that study:

  • The GTh is late (150-200ad), not early (50-75ad). It dates from AFTER the completion and collation of the FourFold gospel.
  • The GTh may contain an authentic extra-biblical tradition or two (a subject we did NOT discuss here--for discussion, see JUF:217ff, Hofius in GAG:336-360), but by and large is dependent on ALL the canonical gospels in their finished form.

As we can see, this infatuation with Gnosticism being the authentic account of Christianity is merely wishful thinking. Doubtful though, that many KosKiddies who frequent the site, will consider researching the matter to see what the Christian response might be. Of course, this is a blinkered mentality, a decision to remain uninformed. Dumb enough to be one of the moonbats that congregate there as true believers, dumber still, as we have seen, to take it seriously regarding Biblical scholarship. But, even more so, when the foolishness of Pat Robertson types or the excess of some "mega-churches" are considered equal to Islamofascism.

Now, as to the freedoms under assault, the radical Christians and the radical Muslims, to take the top two most effective fascist religious groups in the world, are almost identical in their virulence and tactics as they use religion to dominate in politics and war and to attack freedom in the world for profits.

Yeah, because those Christian fundamentalists are blowing up kids and cutting people's heads off.

And of course, the apostle Paul is brought in for abuse as well.

Paul (Saul) later started the adulterated version of Christianity.

This article should help one deal with the claim that Paul distorted Christ's teachings. How "non-Jesus" was Paul, really?

For even more fun, we have the following comments that a few individuals left for this silly article. Hopefully, some are just intentional lampooning of moonbat ideology.

Christian and Muslim fundamentalists. We need to tar the Christians with Fundmentalism as well as the Muslims who are. Link them to each other in every coment you post.

Linguistics is the key to the framing superiority. Read the diary on Helen Thomas to see how she does it.

"Jesus was the Biggest Liberal"

Indeed!

In fact, Jesus DEMANDED the seperation of church and state!!!!

"Render unto Ceaser what is Ceaser's, render unto God what is God's".

All those bible thumpers who want to impose a theocracy upon USA citizens are heretics, and if what they believe is true, they will burn in hell.

Let's all pray that God expedites that!

All of that would be rather entertaining, if only it were just a movie.

Cartoon Jihad - let's make a list

Considering the violence, riots and threats of more to come for every insult to extremists within Islam, perhaps a list of what offends them should be made. It could be carried around by those who are not brave enough to stand up against the attempt to force dhimmitude on those who prefer not to be Muslim or at least reject the oppressive politicized version the Islamofascists are trying to spread beyond their own miserable lives.

Some may have forgotten but the Salmon Rushdie fatwa preceded the cartoon madness.

On February 14, 1989, a fatwa requiring Rushdie's execution was proclaimed on Radio Tehran by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the leader of Iran, calling the book "blasphemous against Islam." As the novel also suggested that Rushdie no longer believed in Islam, Khomeini also condemned him for apostasy, which according to the Hadith is punishable by death. Khomeini indicated that it was the responsibility of all "zealous Muslims" to execute Rushdie and the publishers who were aware of its concepts:

Much violence resulted from simply writing and publishing a book.

In 1991, Rushdie's Japanese translator, Hitoshi Igarashi, was stabbed and killed at the university where he taught in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, north of Tokyo, and his Italian translator was beaten and stabbed in Milan. In 1993, Rushdie's Norwegian publisher William Nygaard was shot and severely injured in an attack outside his house in Oslo. Thirty-seven people died when their hotel in Sivas, Turkey was burnt down by locals protesting against Aziz Nesin, Rushdie's Turkish translator.

Theo van Gogh, who tried to make a stand against the oppression of woman by Islamofascist misogynists, was brutally killed in 2004.

Controversial Dutch filmmaker and newspaper columnist Theo van Gogh, who made a film about violence against women in Islamic societies, has been murdered in Amsterdam, police said.

Police said they arrested a man at the scene after a shootout. The suspect, a 26-year-old man with dual Dutch-Moroccan nationality, and a police officer were slightly wounded.

Filmmaker Theo van Gogh had been threatened after the August airing of the movie "Submission," which he made with a right-wing Dutch politician who had renounced the Islamic faith of her birth

As most are now aware, even an image of Mohammed is enough to inspire death threats, violence, the burning of embassies and calls for laws against blasphemy. See my previous posts at the end of this editorial for coverage.

But now we see that even an image of a mosque is too much for some of the radicals. (H/T JunkYardBlog)

MADRID - The Spanish high street store Bershka has recalled its latest collection from its shops all over the world after complaints from some Muslim customers in Dubai.

Bershka’s new range contains a label with a picture of a garden scene and what looks like a mosque or a Middle Eastern palace. The illustration is done in the style of a postcard from an exotic holiday, with handwriting and an arrow pointing to the building and a few hearts.

On the picture is written: "We slept here!!!" Beneath the picture are the words: "New...Collection 2006. Look! Here is where we are... wonderful! Isn’t it!?"

According to the United Arab Emirates newspaper Khaleej Times, some shoppers in the Dubai Bershka complained to the shop assistant about the labels using "images of a mosque mixed with symbols of love and suggestive comments".

Valentine's Day cards are worthy of being burned and of course, one gets the message of more to come, if they do not submit. (H/T Michelle Malkin)

Srinagar, February 10: Nearly two dozen black-veiled Muslim women stormed gift and stationery shops Friday in Kashmir, burning Valentine's Day cards and posters to protest a holiday they say imposes Western values on Muslim youth.

[...]

"We will not let anyone sell these cards or celebrate Valentine's Day," said Asiya Andrabi, the group's leader, as she held a burning poster in her hand. "These Western gimmicks are corrupting our kids and taking them away from their roots."

She said that the raids were carried out "not to harm anyone but to make them realize that this is against Islam's teachings."

The protesters dispersed after chanting religious slogans. Mohammad Sarwar, though, was furious as he looked over the goods tossed around his small stationery store.

"They barged in, grabbed cards and posters and burnt them outside. Most of the cards were not even Valentine cards. It is difficult to do business with such threats looming overhead," he said.

Most recently, in the news, is the singer Deeyah who has been called the Muslim Madonna. Her song doesn't pull punches as Hugh Hewitt covers it here. He also links to her video, and has some of the lyrics from that song.

  • "Does the truth only come from the top of a holy man's spire?"
  • "From three paces back, covered head to toe, like the rules that the man says and written just for show."
  • "You can stand up, lay down, or follow. What will it be? Will it all be the same tomorrow?"
  • "We don't take it lightly when you threatening women. How you have so much hate and you fake your religion?"
  • "If you're that religious and not for trendy clothes, then what you doing even watching videos?"

Unfortunately, her stand against oppression is being met with death threats. Sadly, this turn of events is no longer shocking.

The singer, who was born in Norway but moved to the UK after her act alienated her from the Muslim community, has been forced to cancel performances and hire a team of bodyguards after inciting anger from British Muslims as well.

"I can't walk around without bodyguards. I would be lying if I said abuse from religious fanatics did not upset or scare me," the 28-year-old, dubbed as the 'Muslim Madonna' was quoted by Contactmusic, as saying.

Asian music TV network B4U TV dropped the video after receiving complaints.

"We played the video a couple of times and then did not play it again. We had threats which we were forced to take very seriously. These things are sensitive issues," an employee said.

As Hewitt points out Deeyah has a profile on myspace. It would be good that people offer encouragement as she faces threats for daring to speak up. It is certainly more than much of western media and politicians, who have cowered before the threats of Islamofacist Imans. Sadly, politicians, who have bodyguards, police and armies behind them, have submitted to this new cancerous spread of dhimmitude. As covered by Sigmund (H/T The Anchoress)

...on February 10, in Oslo, came a dramatic capitulation that seemed a classic case of sharia in action. For days, Velbjørn Selbekk, editor of the tiny Christian periodical Magazinet – the first publication to reprint the now-famous Muhammed cartoons from the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten – had firmly resisted pressure by Muslim extremists (who made death threats) and by the Norwegian establishment (which urged him to give in). But then, on that morning – the day before a planned mass demonstration against the cartoons – Norway’s Minister of Labor and Social Inclusion, Bjarne Håkon Hanssen, hastily called a press conference at a major government office building in Oslo.

There, to the astonishment of his supporters, Selbekk issued an abject apology for reprinting the cartoons. At his side, accepting his act of contrition on behalf of 46 Muslim organizations and asking that all threats now be withdrawn, was Mohammed Hamdan, head of Norway’s Islamic Council. In attendance were members of the Norwegian cabinet and the largest assemblage of imams in Norway's history. It was a picture right out of a sharia courtroom: the dhimmi prostrating himself before the Muslim leader, and the leader pardoning him – and, for good measure, declaring Selbekk to be henceforth under his protection, as if it were he, Hamdan, and not the Norwegian police, that held in his hands the security of citizens in Norway.

I almost forgot, selling a shirt with one of the Mohammed cartoons is also grounds for death threats. I've covered this here.

Conservative t-shirt maker MetroSpy set off a firestorm when their newest design depicted a caricature of the prophet Mohammed with a bomb wrapped in his turban. According to Islamic tradition, graphic depictions of the Prophet Mohammed are forbidden. MetroSpy's apparent disregard for this tradition has outraged many in the Muslim world, prompting some to voice their displeasure by sending the company hate-filled email, online viruses and even death threats.

[...]

Also, standing against Islamofascists can make one's website or blog the target of a DoS attack, as Michelle Malkin recently experienced.

Afternoon update: Confirmed DoS attack, with most of the IP addresses belonging to TurkTelecom. Tech people say the attack is shifting to different source addresses. Loading is spotty and slow. Big headache, but we're working on a more permanent solution.

Looking back over this list, maybe those who want to cower before crazed misogynist psychopaths, who are using a religion as cover for their oppressive desires, should ask them to create a list of what is not offensive. I'm sure it will be very much shorter, all the easier for those with a serious yellow streak to bow in servitude and humiliation to the demands of the extremists.

As for me, I could care less for such a list. As I have stated before, I will not submit. I look forward to when my shirt arrives, and I can post a photo of myself wearing it. If I can choose to not resort to violence when Jesus Christ is lampooned or disrespected, so can others, with regard to their prophets or gods. While some of you may have laughed at the fool's errand that such a request would be, concerning the extremists, we have the sad state of various political leaders and media entities, in the West, quacking in fear at such a thought. But who says that we must bow in servitude as they? People can resist, by posting the cartoons, wearing the shirts and ;speaking against this force that is destroying Islam and focusing on the West as well. Perhaps, as we resist, those in leadership will have their resolve strengthened. It may be that reformers within Islam and the Middle East will also be encouraged. What must not be done is to allow cowardice and submission to violence, be what guides us and determines our actions. The violent are never dissuaded by such overtures, only encouraged.

The end result of cowardly submission may not be seen by those now in power, making their decision easier. It would be better though if they considered what kind of world they're creating for their children and grandchildren, by how they now respond to the Islamofascist’s demand. This is certainly more important than getting worked up over future generations being burdened with budget deficits or lack of funding for some special big government program. It would be helpful if those in positions of power, would show at least as much concern for the obviously violent movement that is killing and threatening so many throughout the world. What account will they give, when the folly of their submission eventually reaps what it has sown?

Hamas - What chance do they want?

With the election of Hamas to a majority in the Palestinian government, there is much concern over how we should react. Some would say that democracy must be respected and we should therefore give them a chance and not treat Hamas as a terrorist organization. But, does receiving a majority vote, automatically mean, that an enemy is no longer our opponent or threatening an ally?

Certainly, it must be clear, that a vote from the people does not mean that threats of destruction or acts of terrorism/war are no longer dangerous to those they are directed against. A leopard’s spots are not changed that easily. Have the words and actions of Hamas actually changed since being voted into power? That is what is important. Appealing to the results of a poll will not change whether or not they are actually still supporting war against Israel or terrorism in other countries.

We must also consider that there are those who speak out of both sides of their mouth. Arafat was known for saying the right words to Western media and then turning around and saying just the opposite in Arabic, when he thought no one was paying attention.<

This type of action can be seen by looking at the Hamas website in Arabic (H/T Atlus Shrugs) and then comparing it to the English version. Notice that the animation of the Jewish star being blown up by the mushroom cloud is not on the English version of the website.

Some will respond that this is only the military wing of Hamas, rather than the political party. But, what is the difference, other than a superficial presentation? When the elected officials of Hamas have said the following in recent days, what meaningful distinction is there?

Israel Reacts To Abbas Speech

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) -- With the Hamas dominated parliament sworn in, Abbas is asking the militants to form the next government. But he wants the group to honor existing peace deals and to negotiate with Israel.

A spokeswoman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry says "there is always hope" that Hamas could change but so far, Hamas leaders have rejected the conditions from Abbas.

If Hamas doesn't recognize Israel, Palestinians risk losing hundreds of millions of dollars from the U.S. and Europe.

But one leading Hamas lawmaker says that even after the speech from Abbas, negotiations with Israel are "not on our agenda."

I submit that there is none. Their words and actions speak for themselves. They have been given an opportunity to continue negotiating for peace. Having votes behind them does not change that they are still threatening war and destruction. Fortunately, the United States is withdrawing financial support until they change their stance.

[...}"So long as Hamas does not recognize Israel's right to exist, my view is we don't have a partner in peace and therefore shouldn't fund a government that is not a partner in peace," Bush told reporters on his plane returning to Washington from Colorado.[...]

This is not a disregard for democracy, but merely showing that votes have consequences. Being democratically elected is not some magic power card that means the world must fantasize that you are only singing about raindrops and roses while you go on, threaten violence and war, and reject peaceful negotiations. Hamas has been given an opportunity, but, currently, it appears the only chance they want, is to continue working to destroy Israel.

Cartoon Jihad! Dhimmitude marches on

It matters not that Islamofascists do not defeat the west militarily when various institutions are giving in to their demands. When you reward violence by submitting, you only encourage more of the same. We have seen this with the media cowering in fear and not publishing “offensive” cartoons. It now appears that Yahoo has also bowed to the violence and submitted to dhimmitude. H/T Ace of Spades HQ

Is Yahoo banning Allah?

It appears from that story, that a new restriction has been invoked. One cannot use Allah as part of a yahoo id.

Included, is the text from a Daily Hampshire Gazette article the backs up the story.

Because Verizon is partnered with Yahoo, said Henson, Verizon customers are subjected to Yahoo's name filters, which apparently include the name "Allah."

[…]

ahoo spokeswoman Meghan Busatch did not dispute Verizon's account. However, in telephone conversations on both Wednesday and Thursday, she said she was unable to provide additional information and asked for more time to prepare a response.

That should be an interesting parsing of the words, once they get their act together.

Callahan said she is wary of any company that wants to forbid the use of the word "Allah."

"I wouldn't want to support a company that has rules like that," she said. "It doesn't help anybody in our world right now."

I don’t blame her. Good thing she doesn’t live in China though. We know how Yahoo works with oppressive governments when political dissidents are involved.

I’ve tested this myself and could not get the following to work for public profiles:

shodanallah
aikidokaallah

The message was simply that they were not available

However, these worked with no problem:

aikidokajesus
shodanjesus

and with jesussucks I got

The identity jesussucks is already in use by someone else. Please select another one.

I invite others to test this and verify the matter for themselves. It appears to me that we have a new Dhimmitard to add to the list

Cartoon Jihad - more death threats

The violence and threats of violence over offensive cartoons continues around the world. We now have an online business, Metrospy, being threatened for selling a t-shirt that displays one of the cartoons. H/T Jihad Watch

Hate Mail and Death Threats Target Seller of Mohammed Cartoon T-shirts

Conservative t-shirt maker MetroSpy set off a firestorm when their newest design depicted a caricature of the prophet Mohammed with a bomb wrapped in his turban. According to Islamic tradition, graphic depictions of the Prophet Mohammed are forbidden. MetroSpy's apparent disregard for this tradition has outraged many in the Muslim world, prompting some to voice their displeasure by sending the company hate-filled email, online viruses and even death threats.

Johnathan Alexander, MetroSpy's production manager, says he's never seen anything like it. “It's a silly little cartoon. We've sold designs far more offensive than this for years”, referring to a t shirt which reads, “My Jesus can beat up your Allah.”

“For people to become so enraged over a drawing that they resort to burning down buildings and threatening to kill people is something I'll never understand,” Alexander said.

In one email the person writes, “We kill you and burn your shop. I am Muslim with forces in the U.S.A.”

Another email claims to be from the terrorist group Al Qaeda. It reads, “You only have 5 days and your company will disappear. I promise!” The email is signed, Saalem Al Qahtani, Al Qaeda.

One of the more disturbing messages simply says, “In two days we kill your family."

Why can’t these people be satisfied with non-violent letters or targeted boycotts and peaceful demonstrations? As it stands, some have called for boycotts against all of Denmark. That’s rather foolish; all it does is give the appearance of fighting against all of western culture, rather than just one entity that managed to offend.

Fortunately, there are still some who express their offense without resorting to threats of murder.

In an email which was traced to Saudi Arabia, the writer asks, “Could you guys do a favor? Please eliminate this picture from your goods because it's very embarrassing to our religion. If you do that, it would be a greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.”

Another says, “I am sending this e-mail and I hope that you understand that what you are doing is offending more than a billion people in the world. I hope that your sales with other stuff be billions but not for this one offending product.”

But, are there enough within Islam who are peaceful, that this radical strain can be stopped? Do they care enough to do what is required?

Altogether, MetroSpy has received more than five hundred hate emails and attempted virus attacks.

Donia Saber of Elk Grove, California is an Islamic activist who writes, “I am deeply offended at the t-shirt company MetroSpy. Selling shirts with a picture of the Prophet is unacceptable and I assure you the Muslim community will not tolerate this.”

Despite protests over their offending design, MetroSpy plans to continue selling the t-shirts. As a precautionary measure however, MetroSpy has increased its security, sought the advice of a private investigative agency and remain in close contact with federal and local authorities.

Before reading this story, I had ordered a shirt with plans to post a photo. My intent is not to offend peaceful Muslims; instead, my focus is on the extremists who destroy Islam as a religion with their violent attempt to force an oppressive sharia or dhimmitude on those who would otherwise choose not to follow their exact precepts. My protest is also against those dhimmitards, who have submitted to violence by choosing not to post the cartoons. They do this despite there being Muslims who say we should display them to show how foolish the violent reactions are and to fight censorship. Submitting to the Islamofascists violence and threats of more to come is the precisely wrong incentive program to be creating. Though I disagree with other religions, I have no hatred for people of other faiths. But when radicals use religion as a cloak for psychotic rages and violence in an attempt to conquer others, it is no longer a religion to be respected, but a dangerous political movement that must be resisted. In short, I am not deterred.

Port security sellout?

Many have raised concerns regarding a Dubai based business purchasing U.S. port operations. The issues being that security may be compromised, as it is hard enough to secure the ports and shipping without having a company from a Muslim country involved.

I am concerned as well and think we should take it slow. I don't really care to move at the speed of Democrats criticizing the administration, as they only see a political opportunity. Still, prudence is required in these times and perhaps we should take another very close look, before proceeding.

Michelle Malkin covers the concerns here.

Dubai Ports, after all, is owned by the United Arab Emirates, whose banking system - considered the commercial center of the Arab world - provided most of the cash for the 9/11 hijackers. Indeed, much of the operational planning for the World Trade Center attacks took place inside the UAE.

And while the Bush folks now consider the UAE a major ally in the war against terror, the Treasury Department has been stonewalled by the emirates, and other Arab countries, in trying to track Osama bin Laden's bank accounts. The new leader of Dubai, one of the seven small countries that make up the UAE, has said all the right things about fighting radical Islam since 9/11. But this remains very much an Islamist nation, where preaching any religion other than Islam is prohibited.

She has much more, be sure to read it all.

On the other side of the issue is this view.

Folks, it is best to research a subject before going off in a panic of ineundo and incorrect information (which leads to wild conclusions).

Port Operations are not security or ownership. It is traffic control, trash and clean up, etc. Security and the law are handled by the Coast Guard as part of Homeland Defense and normal law enforcement (local, state and Federal).

[...]

BTW, I can think of no scenario to sneak something into our ports (bribing folks to look the other, placing people sympathetic to Bin Laden) that cannot be done under the current arrangement - easier. Not one scenario is made easier with the UAE owenership of the parent company and the visibility of this issue. In fact, I would not be surprised that the UAE company looks at the risk of being blamed for any successful attack and possibly backs out of the deal. Which of course, if this happens, confirms everyone was wrong. A sincere UAE company would back out, an Al Qaeda plot would ignore the concerns and focus on their objective.

That is not to say if the UAE company hangs in there they are part of an Al Qaeda plot. There are a myriad of reasons they may hang in (prodding by our government, a pride to show they are not animals, a need to show people they are not a risk). But a pull out would definitely remove the Al Qaeda possibility.

Again, read the whole thing.

Some good points are made on both sides. For some the UAE is moving out of the extremism that infects so much of the Muslim world and port security is not affected; others, care not for taking what appears to be a risk that can be avoided. Some are leveling the charge of racism against those who object to this company or country being involved. I would disagree with that, as we have seen, there were some connections to 9-11 through the UAE. The dangerous times we live in demand caution, we missed dots and connections before, we need to be confident we are not doing the same again.

Just for grins and giggles and because I can - v.2

Another post in a myspace group attacking Christianity. Once again, the original post in bold and my replies in normal text. On a side note, the subject of my first grins and giggles post may be working up the energy to give me more material. We can only hope :-)

AlanWrote:

WARNING: The following may be offensive to some. No...seriously...it might piss you off.

Nah, willful ignorance is merely entertaining - at your expense.

TOP 10 SIGNS YOU'RE A CHRISTIAN

If you people are going to copy/paste, it would be appropriate to give attribution. However, since I tend to be a pack rat, such repetition does make my job easier.

10 - You vigorously deny the existence of thousands of gods claimed by other religions, but feel outraged when someone denies the existence of yours.

Not outraged, just think they are in error. And really, the statement assumes that evidence for all claims to divinity are on equal footing. That is simply not true. Since the last time such drivel was posted, I've dealt with this in a bit more detail here

9 - You feel insulted and "dehumanized" when scientists say that people evolved from other life forms, but you have no problem with the Biblical claim that we were created from dirt.

I suppose young earth creationists may feel that way but I dont. I get the impression someone likes to generalize a bit too much.

8 - You laugh at polytheists, but you have no problem believing in a Triune God.

Who laughs? again generalization. And multiple gods is not the same as a Triune God and again the level of evidence for each belief is not one the same level of quality or quantity.

7 - Your face turns purple when you hear of the "atrocities" attributed to Allah, but you don't even flinch when hearing about how God/Jehovah slaughtered all the babies of Egypt in "Exodus" and ordered the elimination of entire ethnic groups in "Joshua" including women, children, and trees!

One should study before spouting, well copy/past in this instance. Being informed might lead to one not embarrasing themselves by throwing around a list filled with such uninformed foolishness.

OT passages on what God avenges
God is wrathful, vengeful, and jealous?
What about God's cruelty to the Midianites in Numbers 31?!
How could a God of Love order the massacre/annihilation of the Canaanites?
shouldn't the butchering of the Amalekite children be considered war crimes?

6 - You laugh at Hindu beliefs that deify humans, and Greek claims about gods sleeping with women, but you have no problem believing that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary, who then gave birth to a man-god who got killed, came back to life and then ascended into the sky.

Not sure who is laughing, this person apparently has quite an imagination or just likes the argumentum ad hominem fallacy. Also, the Christian notion is not that the Holy Spirit impregnated Mary with some sort of ecto plasma hard on. If one wants to be all anthropomorphic like that fine but dont mistake your misconceptions for Christian doctrine.

5 - You are willing to spend your life looking for little loopholes in the scientifically established age of Earth (few billion years), but you find nothing wrong with believing dates recorded by Bronze Age tribesmen sitting in their tents and guessing that Earth is a few generations old.

Another generalization, all Christians do not believe in a young earth. At least the writer is consistently fallacious.

4 - You believe that the entire population of this planet with the exception of those who share your beliefs -- though excluding those in all rival sects - will spend Eternity in an infinite Hell of Suffering. And yet consider your religion the most "tolerant" and "loving."

The end comes down to one saying - God thy will be done or God saying to them -thy will be done.

God cannot force someone to choose to love him and enjoy being in his presence.

3 - While modern science, history, geology, biology, and physics have failed to convince you otherwise, some idiot rolling around on the floor speaking in "tongues" may be all the evidence you need to "prove" Christianity.

nope, all Christians do not speak in tongues and science isnt so good at explaining origins anyway.

2 - You define 0.01 as a "high success rate" when it comes to answered prayers. You consider that to be evidence that prayer works. And you think that the remaining 99.99 FAILURE was simply the will of God.

Made up statistics dont make for convincing arguments. Also, people on your side, like to say God is not worthy of worship because evil exists in the world and being all-powerful it must be his fault. Funny, they refuse to credit him for all the good that also exists.

1 - You actually know a lot less than many atheists and agnostics do about the Bible, Christianity, and church history - but still call yourself a Christian.

Sure, some Christians are under informed but I could say the same about some atheists considering the arguments for not believing that I have seen lately, this list being a shining example. But hey, the author has been generalizing throughout this, might as well end it that way.

I wonder, is anyone brave or stupid enough to take credit for this list?

Cartoon Jihad - Muslim group criticizes Iran's President

As I've stated in previous posts, the moderates within Islam need to be heard. We need to encourage them to speak out and act, so that as much as possible is done to destroy the Islamofascists that endanger not only the West but Islam itself. It's a postive moment to see a Muslim group publicly stand against anti-semitism.

Bloggledygook has this

A Muslim cultural institute in Germany on Monday criticised Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for disparaging the Holocaust, daring him to visit the Auschwitz concentration camp.

"In this place of horror he can again deny the Holocaust, if he has the courage," a spokesman for the Islam-Archiv-Deutschland Central Institute told the German Catholic press agency KNA.

"If he has the courage". I doubt that ranting psychotic child has the sort of courage to do this.

By denying the Holocaust, Ahmadinejad not only denigrated the Jewish victims of the genocide but also the 200,000 Roms and Arabs murdered in the "gypsy camp" of Auschwitz-Birkenau and other camps, the institute spokesman said.

The fact that the president of an Islamic state repeated Nazi anti-Semitism was harmful to the image of Islam and "a disgrace for all the world’s Muslims", he added.

Strong words and it is good to see Muslims stand up against such rantings.

The Berlin-based institute, founded in 1927, is the oldest Muslim body in Germany.

It has been dedicated to preserving the community’s archives since the 18th century and fostering relations between Muslims and other religions.

[...]

H/T Belmont Club who presents this and another matter in contrast to the quest for solitary power and quotes from Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings for good measure.

Tolkien well understood to what airless places men are led in the quest for solitary power --  "no taste of food, no feel of water, no sound of wind, no memory of tree or grass or flower, no image of moon or star are left to me," was Frodo's description of the arid sustenance of the Ring.

Hopefully, this will become a broad and powerful trend, with Muslims ever more, publicly criticizing and working against the radicals on  many levels. The time has come, when simply ignoring them will not do.

How not to win an Oscar

It doesn't take much to discern what will effectively halt a career in Hollywood. All one has to do is look at the plaudits given to the likes of George Clooney of Syriana fame or the award given for the "documentary Fahrenheit 9-11 or anything that "bravely" confronts America and all of it's "evils" and missteps in the world. With such encouragement, many times, the best that can be hoped for is that only a moral equivalency is proffered, rather than a completely destructive narrative being projected. However, simply do the opposite, without apology and the odds are that your career will not go much further, or that your struggle to succeed will greatly increase.

This brings us to Gary Sinise. I remember the first time I saw him was in the television adaptation of The Stand by Stephen King. I enjoyed the miniseries greatly, but the way Mr. Sinise played an ordinary man caught within extraordinary circumstances, stood out to me, above all, though surrounded by many very good performances. His career continued and eventually led to his best-known role, that of Lt. Dan in the movie Forrest Gump. His portrayal of a disabled and bitter Vietnam veteran, who eventually overcame his inner torments was very moving and has led to many calling out "Lt. Dan" when they seem him in public. Due to this, he has called the band that he now plays bass in, The Lt. Dan band. But, for all of his accomplishments, he may be endangering his career with what he has to say about current events.

He has spoken up before; about the good work, our troops are doing in Iraq and how the media is unbalanced in its coverage of their efforts. This hasn't been a one-time off the cuff remark but has been repeated, and most recently, in a rather straight shooting exclusive interview with Newsmax.com. Mr. Sinise has some things to say that may not have a positive affect on his career. Unlike George Clooney and others like him, this actually takes courage and involves risk. Since the interview is an exclusive, I'll just highlight some of what was in my email today, that brought it to my attention. Be sure to follow the link and read what he says. It's refreshing to see someone in Hollywood speak up for our troops and actually support them, rather than just display a bumper sticker claiming to support our troops while disparaging every aspect of their mission.

The U.S. media presents a "completely opposite" view of what is really happening with American troops in Iraq, highlighting the negative and ignoring the positive, Emmy Award-winning actor Gary Sinise tells NewsMax in an exclusive interview with James Hirsen. Read the full interview - Go Here Now

Be sure to read it all, Mr. Sinise isn't just so much talk but also action.

Sinise has entertained troops in Iraq and is a co-founder - along with "Seabiscuit" author Laura Hillenbrand - of Operation Iraqi Children, a program that enables ordinary Americans to provide boys and girls in Iraq with school supply kits distributed by our men and women in uniform.

The actor, who played disabled Vietnam veteran Lieutenant Dan in "Forrest Gump," is also a spokesman for the U.S. Disabled Veterans Life Memorial Foundation.

He is also the co-founder of the Lt. Dan Band, a musical ensemble that entertains troops via USO tours. (Sinise plays a mean bass.)

I hope that his career doesn't take a hit or that he prospers in other ways should that occur. God bless him for what he is saying and doing. It isn't very popular in Hollywood and he certainly won't win an Oscar for it. But, I get the impression, he could care less about that and is more concerned with doing what he believes is the right course of action, unlike the Dhimmiwit duo of Gary Busey and Billy Zane with the hate America movie they were recently involved with.

The contrast in words and action are wonderfully instructive, dramatic and hardly need comment. I can just hear some elements of the extreme lefties in Hollywood, trying to figure out how to give this foreign film some sort of award for being so bold, brave and filled with courage and daring to speak the truth. Such twisted criterion speaks volumes about those who hold to such views. At one time, such actions would have been called treasonous. But, when Jane Fonda is allowed to skate away from that charge, the best we can do is highlight the obvious. These people are useful idiots to those who hate the West, America, Jews or whoever happens to cross their path. Hopefully, it won't take another event of bloody carnage, on American soil, to remove the hardened scales from their eyes.

It's lawyer season

Apparently Dick Cheney agrees with William Shakespeare

The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers.

Vice Prez

After Cheney's Shooting Incident, Time to Unload...

It was one of those "everyone's a wise guy" days in Washington yesterday, thanks to Dick Cheney. Quipping at the vice president's expense was like shooting fish, or quail -- oh, never mind.

It's never a good thing to be a punch line in politics, and the vice president had the field to himself after accidentally shooting his hunting companion, Austin lawyer Harry Whittington, at a Texas ranch late Saturday. The accident left the 78-year-old man seriously injured. He was released from the intensive care unit yesterday.

Much is being made of the news not getting out on Saturday. My bet, is that if they had released the information sooner (would it ever be fast enough?) the criticism would that they cared more for spinning the issue before finding out the man was really out of danger. There is simply no way, a press eager to ridicule and criticize the Vice President or President, would simply give them a pass, when something as dramatic as this occurs. Especially, when they are taking their cues from the looney left. As it stands now, it appears the man made a mistake by not letting them know where he was. Seems like a good reason not to rush with getting the information out, along with, making sure he was out of danger first.

Me thinks Shakespeare had it wrong, we should start with the journalists.
