Financial bailout fails in the House

I guess I still have time to get a no down payment ARM, default on it and then benefit from a Democrat larded up bailout.

First, let's address the market downturn. Good points are made here:

excerpt:

What is good for stockholders isn't necessarily good for the economy as a whole. Normally, I'm not much moved by populist rhetoric about how the interests of "Main Street" are at odds with those of "Wall Street." This, however, is one of the rare cases where such cliches have a measure of truth. If Congress were planning to pass a bill providing, say, a $100 per share subsidy to stockholders at the expense of taxpayers, no doubt stock values would rise in anticipation and then fall precipitously if the plan were unexpectedly voted down. That is essentially what happened here. Many stockholders owned shares in firms that expected to be bailed out. In addition to the financial firms that would have been the immediate beneficiaries of the bailout, shareholders in many other industries could foresee a "slippery slope" under which their firms could expect an increased chance of a bailout for themselves.

Be sure to read it all and the comments which include an interesting discussion of some of the points in the post. This doesn't mean we are not in a crisis, but let's not panic. Things may get worse but that doesn't mean we lost our best and only chance to correct the situation.

Correcting the problems will require a bit less gamesmanship from certain people though. Judging from the media and Democrats spinning it's not surprising that many would think it was just the Republicans who are at fault here. Let's get some facts straight.

Pelosi said this needed to pass in a bipartisan manner.

She has enough Democrats in the House, Republicans are not needed.

Despite wanting bipartisanship she attacks the Bush administration and says Republicans were not patriotic. I guess it's do as I say, not as I do in her world.

She had 95 Democrats vote against the bill. She only need 12 more voting for it, for the bill to pass. To see how thoroughly Democrats were playing games with this listen to Karl Rove here (thanks to HotAir, be sure to go there for the update).

So princess Pelosi demands bipartisanship and yes votes from Republicans, while attacking them and letting her own people vote against the bill.

Stay classy Nancy.

And where was the leadership of Barack Obama?

*crickets*

As our markets burn the Democrats fiddle

Nancy Pelosi sure knows how to help the situation when she says House Republicans are unpatriotic for not showing up for bail out negotiations. From HotAir we see who was responsible for that. Playing politics while claiming we are in danger of a credit and economic disaster? I wonder how long it will take Obama to man up and criticize her for that?

It's hardly surprising that Democrats would fiddle during this crisis as they've had some practice as this disaster was looming.

Thanks to Freeman Hunt, who also has additional links worth perusing. Be sure to also go here and  note who received the most money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. What does it say of Nancy Pelosi that she is not ashamed to still have Chris Dodd and Barney Frank involved in negotiations and trying to lard up this bail out with provisions that will cost tax payers billions?

Some have tried to lay this at the doorstep of deregulation, specifically the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. IBD addresses this claim here:

First, that bill didn't make regulation go away. It modernized the rules to fit the realities of the financial markets. Washington doesn't always get the rules right, but in this case it did.

Also, Gramm-Leach-Bliley didn't take down the firewalls between deposit-based banking and investments. Banks can't play the stock market or trade credit default swaps with your savings account. Investment and banking operations run under one corporate roof, but otherwise stay separate.

[...]

In this respect, Gramm-Leach-Bliley has turned out to be smart policy indeed. By repealing the rule against banks owning investment firms, it has led to at least two crucial mergers — JPMorgan Chase absorbing Bear Stearns and Bank of America merging with Merrill Lynch. Morgan Stanley may be the next investment house to find shelter in a well-capitalized commercial bank.

You can spot the theme here: By taking down an outmoded firewall, the law is helping the financial industry cope with a once-in-a-lifetime crisis. Far from being the cause, this instance of deregulation, or whatever you call it, is part of the cure.

Be sure to read it all to gain a bit more understanding of how we got here.

Overall, it is a near perfect storm of multiple causes that are to blame. Good intentions with government mandated distortion of the markets helped make the housing bubble and magnified it greatly. Corruption was encouraged by this government interference and resulted in bought politicians resisting proper regulation of the businesses government created. While this doesn't exhaust the list, it should be clear that people like Chris Dodd and Barney Frank should not be involved in negotiating a bail out.

It is highly disputed and doubtful that Nero actually played the fiddle while Rome burned. What is beyond dispute is that Democrats are very much the reason for this disaster and that Nancy Pelosi would rather play politics as if she thinks she's a musical virtuoso, rather than do what's right for the country.

The financial crisis goes viral

If you would like to help that is. (inspired by ClobberBlog)

A video that's going around manages to cram quite a bit of information about how we got into this crisis into it's just under 10 minute presentation. In fact, you may have to hit the pause button a few times to fully absorb the data that's flashing by. It's well worth the effort to watch and the music doesn't hurt. Be sure to send it to others, but also take the time to read Ed Morrissey's additional thoughts here.

excerpt (emphasis in bold is mine):

That’s why this isn’t just a Democratic Party problem.  They set the wheels in motion, but all of us should have known better.  Many of us benefited from the bubble, and now the bill has come due.  What we should demand is that the people who got us into this mess — Chris Dodd and Barney Frank in particular — recuse themselves from their committee assignments and stay out of the solution-making process.

The video (swiped from that HotAir post)

Obama likes to talk about how he understands the economy better than John McCain, but the record shows that McCain warned of this catastrophe and supported legislation that could have averted the crisis. Sadly, too many people, primarily Democrats, but also some Republicans simply did not listen or actively resisted necessary reforms.

Barack Obama talks of change. We most certainly need to change what brought us to this moment. We must also change and stop ignoring when a politician warns of what is coming, as John McCain did.

Barack Obama nearly received more money from these companies than any other Senator and did that in only two years. Having a Fannie Mae bought politician in the oval office would certainly be a change from having a number of them in Congress. Is such change something we should believe in? Would that change give us any reasonable hope of avoiding a repeat of this crisis?

*UPDATE 10.01.08* Had to change the video as a copyright claim had been made against the original version because of the music.

Good for me, not so good for you

It's nice when someone spends time on my blog and bumps my page view stats up a bit and takes the time to leave comments. Unfortunately, when they leave comments showing little ability to see outside their confirmation bias blinders, it says little positive about their ability to learn.

How did I determine this? I'm glad you asked.

My post Joe Biden - super genius, elicited the following from Charles, in part a response to a comment left by Dave.

Not show? Why? He'll win hands down. Palin couldn't debate herself out of a wet sack without being fed the answers. She answered most of Charlie Gibson's questions with questions of her own because she doesn't have a clue.

Charles might want to look at the unedited interview, which is substantially different on key matters, before spouting such things. His claim that Palin answered mostly with questions is ridiculous enough to only deserve a snicker and eye roll in reply. Let's also not leave out the Gibson/ABC misquoted her and when she noted that, Gibson still claimed it was her exact words. Finally, Sarah Palin performed well enough in an number of  debates to win the Republican primary, unseat the incumbent Governor of Alaska and then defeat a popular, former Governor. Two years later and she still has an approval rating that is north of sixty percent.

This doesn't mean I think it's a certainty Palin will soundly defeat Biden, but she clearly has some skill at debating and presenting her views. Let's not forget that Biden is know as a gaffe machine for good reason and only this last week has had several. Neither side should fall prey to over confidence here as it's easy enough to have a bad day while your opponent has a good day.

But Charles didn't stop there. He decided to grace us with more of his "wisdom".

His reply to my post Holy Gibson follows.

The difference being one is a religious nutjob in a fringe church who drinks the koolaid. She thinks this is some kind of 'cruscade' and history tells us how the last one ended. The video is a nice try, but please. Nothing is more dangerous that someone in power who 'thinks' god is telling them what to do. What happens when they are 'told' that certain groups are 'bad' and need to be removed? Nazi Germany ring any bells?

Charles seems to be angling for a job at ABC. I think Charlie Gibson should watch out for this up and comer breathing down his neck. No doubt, Charles is relying on the same bogus information, an intentionally edited video that distorted what Sarah Palin actually said. That kind of in-depth investigation is perfect experience for a job in the mainstream media.

The truth to that matter can be found at both links at the top of my blog, "Lists of debunked Sarah Palin rumors". What does it say about a person that they spend thirty or so minutes here, view five pages, but miss the two links at the top? What of not searching and finding the post that mentions those two links?

For all the effort at commenting that Charles managed, I find it interesting that he said nothing to the post Obama continues his infanticide lies. That post is his visit entry page, by way of the Conservative Cat permanent floating ping festival. Perhaps even Charles knows that the fact Obama lied, and continues to do so, can't be argued away.

Now that I think about it, Charles -- Charlie Gibson, OMIGAWD! That explains it completely!

John McCain responds to the financial crisis

John McCain has decided to suspend his campaign and go back to Washington to help work out a solution to the financial crisis. McCain has also asked to postpone this Friday's Presidential debate.

"I have spoken to Senator Obama and informed him of my decision and have asked him to join me," McCain said in New York City Wednesday. "I am calling on the president to convene a meeting with the leadership from both houses of Congress, including Senator Obama and myself.  It is time for both parties to come together to solve this problem.”

Barack Obama responds:

"I believe that we should continue to have the debate," Obama said. "It's my belief that this is exact time when the American people need to hear form the person who in approximately 40 days will be responsibly for dealing with this mess and I think that it is going to be part of the President’s job to deal with more than one thing at once.

For someone who is reasonably seen as being all talk and little to no action or actual results, it seems rather foolhardy to avoid taking action in Congress because one wants to talk.

Obama said that unlike McCain, he will not suspend ads, or campaign events scheduled between now and Friday's debate.

That's real smart, saying that when you're up against a guy running with the slogan "Country first". One get's the impression that Obama's new strategy is to do the exact opposite of John McCain. Next McCain campaign commercial:

You see that cliff over there?

John McCain is not jumping off.

This ad approved by John McCain.

"I think it's very important that the American people see the people who potentially could be in charge of this problem within the next couple of months..."

Translation: "look at me! look at me!"

and so my attitude is that we need to be focused on solving the problems, as I have been,"

Because campaign commercials and events will do so much more than actually doing work in Congress like a U.S. Senator?

Obama said. "It's also important that we communicate where we need to go in getting us out of the situation."

Because helping to negotiate, support and actually vote on a bailout plan would communicate nothing?

Obama said he will stay in Florida for the time being and will not return to Washington unless asked by Congressional leadership.

Waiting for the ok from Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi? Now that's leadership we can believe in!

"I've told the leadership in Congress is that if I can be helpful then I am prepared to be anywhere at anytime," he said.

Anywhere at anytime? I hope that doesn't work out as well as your saying you would debate John McCain anytime, anywhere.

The entire article is here (thanks to HotAir), with interesting bs tossed about by Harry Reid, who Obama is deferring to for leadership.

One can be forgiven getting the impression that Barack Obama is wishing there was such a thing as voting "present" in the U.S. Senate. It must be frustrating to have so much experience at something and not be able to dazzle an audience with it during a time of crisis.

The abortion experience

It can leave emotional scars with those who have had abortions. This is one resource that can help.

From Kathryn Lopez at the Corner here:

Michaelene Fredenburg is a smart, good, generous woman who has a campaign that I think has the potential to save and change lives. Her abortionchangesyou.com is a resource for so many who are suffering silently —  for those who are facing the consequences of "choice" alone.

[...]

For those who quietly suffer perhaps this can be a step towards healing.

DailyKos erasing history

The Palin smear campaign investigation seems to have hit another nerve. When the youtube videos began disappearing Patterico noted, In the criminal law business, we call evidence like that “consciousness of guilt.” The DailyKos is now trying to remove evidence of it's connection to this deceptive practice.

Ace covers it here, and again read it all.

An excerpt:

I'd say this is pretty strong evidence "geekesque" is also part of the Winner & Associates viral marketing team-- he's disappearing the evidence of his part in this the same as "eswinner" and "cnwinner."

I suppose the silver lining is that the DailyKos has a sliver of a conscious. Unfortunately it's completely offset by a predilection to dishonesty, rather than having the courage to admit to wrong doing and then correcting that.

Funny how cockroaches scurry when a little light is shown on their activity. I wonder if the mainstream media will remember all their talk about how the cover up can be worse than the crime?

Obama cockroaches running for cover?

An interesting reaction to the investigative report I covered in a previous post. In contrast to most online denizens, rather than enjoying the attention, videos and YouTube accounts are being removed and canceled in a rather organized fashion.

Ace notes why this is important here.

Barack Obama and the DNC watch this blog. And I've put them on notice since this afternoon that a story about them was coming.

Within an hour of the story being posted, the videos began coming down. Within 90 minutes they were all down.

That's a pretty fast response time. I didn't mention Winner & Associates in my hints. So why would they be on notice?

I only mentioned Axelrod and Obama.

As they say, read it all.

This story is ongoing and it looks like the best places to keep up would be the following.

The Jawa Report - They broke the story and did most of the research and look to have more coming in the future.

Excellent commentary and summary are being provided by:

Jim Treacher

Dan Reihl

Michelle Malkin

Another item to consider is that the videos were (quickly) removed rather than claim a copyright violation. That would tend to require revealing ownership of the videos. Why would someone not want to do that?

**update**

Ed Morrissey bullet points the issue, minus the running for cover, and ties this to past disturbing behavior by the Obama campaign.

Could this be true?  Normally, one would shrug off such a suggestion by saying that no national campaign would be dumb enough to try this, especially one ahead in the polls.  However, consider what Team Obama did to Stanley Kurtz and David Freddoso.  They don’t seem hesitant in the least to conduct smear campaigns and character assassination to win elections, and they conducted those two attacks openly.  With that kind of track record, it doesn’t seem out of the question for them to have conducted a slimy, unethical attack on a political opponent who threatened to steal all of the oxygen away from their campaign in a way that hid their involvement.

Anti-Palin campaign is a grassroots effort?

There have been many rumors and lies spread about Governor Palin soon after she was picked to be John McCain's Vice President. Some have spread quickly around the Internet and eventually were picked up by various pundits and news organizations, even weeks after having been debunked. See the two links at the top of my blog for continually updated lists of these debunked rumors and smears.

The problem, besides being outright lies, is that they may not be from mere individuals who are independent of the Obama campaign. The practice of faking grassroots support or resistance is known as "Astroturfing". This is obviously a dishonest method and Obama's chief campaign advisor is known for being quite good at this deceptive activity. See here for more information.

More has now been added to this story. There's good background on it here.

Ace sums up the new allegations well with this.

excerpt:

Obama Connected PR Firm Produces, Uploads Lying Anti-Palin Ad on YouTube, Then Pushes it Virally as "Grassroots" Effort; PR Exec Sockpuppets Praise Video for "Getting the Truth Out;" Company Employee Uploads it On Democratic Underground and Urges Readers to Send it Out to Ten People Each

The full story is here.

There is certainly enough smoke and apparent connections to warrant the media investigating this if John McCain's campaign were involved. It seems quite reasonable to expect the same diligence and search for truth investigating what the Obama campaign connections may be. We are talking about violating not only the public trust, but also playing the media for fools and breaking campaign finance laws.

Don't worry I won't hold my breath. The inaction of the media shouldn't stop us from spreading this story around though. As it is, there are numerous connections that give indication of possibly deeper and illegal activities. As many people as possible should be aware that a presidential candidate may be practicing very dirty/illegal politics. Perhaps that will encourage the media to act appropriately for a change.

Obama continues his infanticide lies

It's already been well established that Barack Obama has lied about his pro-abortion record and his fight against legislation that would have protected abortion survivors. He now continues this disturbing habit with his response to the ad by BornAliveTruth.org, featuring abortion survivor Gianna Jessen, which you can see in a previous post. Unfortunately, Barack Obama responds with an attack ad, filled with more lies and distortions.

Jill Stanek exposes the lies in detail and notes that Obama's attack ad was "deceptive in at least 4 ways..."

Obama clearly does not have the courage to stand up and just admit the truth. Perhaps he's encouraged to lie by his supporters who leave comments online saying:

  • "Wow, good response. Off to give another donation to Obama."
  • "hit them back Obama don't allow them to swift-boat you, fight back and fight back hard"
  • "McCain leading the polls was a good reality check for Obama...hes not playing anymore, keep it up Barack!"

Note the lack of concern about the lies in the ad. The end justifies the means. Obama and his supporters don't care that they respond to Gianna Jessen with lies, they just care about winning. Considering the multiple deceptions, I'm impressed with the grace displayed by Gianna Jessen in her reply to Obama's attack.

“Mr. Obama is clearly blinded by political ambition given his attack on me this week. All I asked of him was to do the right thing: support medical care and protection for babies who survive abortion – as I did 31 years ago. He voted against such protection and care four times even though the U.S. Senate voted 98-0 in favor of a bill identical to the one Obama opposed. In the words of his own false and misleading ad, his position is downright vile. Mr. Obama said at the recent Saddleback Forum that the question of when babies should get human rights was above his pay grade. Such vacillation and cowardice would have left me to die if his policies were in place when I was born. Thank God they were not.” (From Michelle Malkin who has more here)

It's beyond denying that Obama has thrown aside the "new" politics he claimed to be ushering into the world. This man is just a typical Chicago thug politician, which is hardly surprising, considering that's where he came up in politics. That history also reveals a lack of reform, despite having opportunities to support reformers and legislation. No, Barack Obama instead decided to play along with Richard Daley machine politics.

What Barack Obama brings to the national stage and possibly the White House, is the corrupt political machine of Chicago. That would be bad enough but Barack Obama also has no problem lying about how he fought legislation to prevent infanticide. The only thing new about all that, is how far he's managed to get with only flowery words to counter his actual record.

Obama lies and inflames racial fears

It would seem Barack Obama finally has an example of his ability to create bipartisan unity. Unfortunately, it's due to a range of people agreeing that Barack Obama lied in an ad attacking John McCain.

Ann Althouse has a round up here, several excerpts:

The Obama campaign not only shamelessly misused Limbaugh's quotes but also connected McCain to Limbaugh over immigration, an issue over which the 2 men have continually disagreed.

[...]

Obama is flatly and embarrassingly wrong on this, but I find it hard to picture him apologizing. I hope he is at least forced to talk about it, so we can pick apart the all-but-inevitable weaseling.

The Anchoress links to Ann Althouse and offers her own commentary here. A brief snippet:

...an ad that proves the Obama camp is either full of liars or too stupid to understand parody and irony. Perhaps they are both.

[...]

The press will not ask Obama to talk about anything that makes him the tiniest bit uncomfortable.

Be sure to read it all.

I'm going to have to agree that the press will probably not cover this. At best, it will be very cursory and then dropped.

I wonder if those who support Obama, and yet are reasonable (yes they do exist), are having buyers remorse yet. This being another example of Obama putting his own ambitions above what really are greater concerns, it has to be a bit worrisome to those supporters. I'm quite sure they would not agree that lying and deepening racial divides are justified because the end result is that Obama might be President.

With Americans even now being called racist when they disagree with Obama, why should anyone believe that will change just because Barack Obama has the power of the Presidency? Besides the dubious notion that he will suddenly begin to act out his elevated talk of a new type of politics, there would be the matter of his more fervent followers believing their tactics were justified. Can we blame them? Barack Obama himself has used these tactics to ascend this far and may reach the ultimate heights of political power in this country. They're only following his example.

Obama - "Constitutional law" expert?

If that's true, Barack Obama seems to not care that he's stepping all over the U.S. Constitution lately. How so? Well there is that little matter called separation of powers. Foreign policy is in the hands of the President, rather than a huge committee of 500+ constantly having individual members go off on their own accord to this or that country and negotiate as they see fit. Obviously that would be a confusing morass that should be avoided and our founding fathers wisely arranged powers and duties to prevent such a mess in our relations to other countries.

Unfortunately, there appears to be some legs to the claim that Obama has worked to undermine U.S. foreign policy, while our troops are in combat. I covered it briefly in a previous post here and noted it was part of a pattern with Obama. Besides the sheer naked ambition of his action, there is the matter of the Logan act. Maybe considering the legal matters of this is also above Barack Obama's pay grade?

There's good coverage out there, which pretty much means the mainstream media is trying not to pay attention and others are picking up the slack. Yes, shocking isn't it?

From JustOneMinute we have ongoing coverage that you really need to take the time to read in full. Here's a small snippet from the latest post here.

if Obama can't communicate clearly he would do well to keep quiet, however difficult that may be for him.  Given Obama's penchant for "foreign policy by gaffe", as with his revised pledge of unconditional meetings with foreign leaders or his revised promise of an undivided Jerusalem, maybe a bit of silent contemplation before he takes to the world stage would be a great idea.

More at PajamasMedia here. Be sure to read it all. A small excerpt:

If the claims in the article are correct, Barack Obama was telling Iraqis to keep the number of American troops at current levels, while pressuring American officers for a withdrawal date  and telling the far left anti-war base of his supporters that he was pledged to a nearly unconditional withdrawal.

It does seem Barack Obama is intent on change. One would hope that Obama doesn't think himself so important that he can change the U.S. Constitution whenever it suits his fancy and is convenient to his ambition. This would be especially important when such foolishness would confound the mission of our troops in combat and confuse our relationship with other countries. It would be nice if there was a politician out there who would rather lose an election than have this country lose a war, country first and all that.

Obama, the financial crisis and a pattern

I don't think this helps Michelle's kids.

Thanks to Glenn Reynolds, who has more links about the crisis at that post.

Ace has more with:

Obama Flat-Out Lies About Inventing the Stimulus Package

Even his fellow Democrats, asked if it were true that Obama had taken the lead in crafting the stimulus bill, answered simply, "No."

Be sure to read it all as Ace reminds us of another lie from Obama.

And while were on the subject of lying, some discussion here that Obama greatly exaggerated his early career in one of this books. That link is one of many at The Anchoress post here, be sure to check them out.

Let's not forget the flap over an Obama campaign official telling Canada that Obama wasn't serious about unilaterally changing free trade agreements. According to initial reports, it was just campaign rhetoric was the reassuring excuse offered to Canadian officials. Which of course the Obama campaign denied as this lengthy article lays out.

There is also Obama lying about his relationship to William Ayers and the ridiculous expectation that we should believe that in twenty years he never heard such statements about America from "reverend" Jeremiah Wright.

Let's toss in Obama's claim that McCain would use racist attacks against him. He still tried to claim that in his interview with O'Reilly, and when challenged resorted to the equivalent of "we have no evidence just proves how well they can hide their work".

We now also have a report that Obama tried to undermine U.S. foreign policy while he was in Iraq.

In the New York Post, conservative Iranian-born columnist Amir Taheri quoted Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari as saying the Democrat made the demand when he visited Baghdad in July, while publicly demanding an early withdrawal.

"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview, according to Taheri.

The article on that includes the Obama campaign reply.

But Obama's national security spokeswoman Wendy Morigi said Taheri's article bore "as much resemblance to the truth as a McCain campaign commercial."

In fact, Obama had told the Iraqis that they should not rush through a "Strategic Framework Agreement" governing the future of US forces until after President George W. Bush leaves office, she said.

Glenn Reynolds says it best with, "I'm not seeing a lot of daylight between what Taheri said and the Obama campaign's response here."

Let's not forget Obama's lies about his radical pro-abortion record.

That we seem to have a disturbing pattern with Senator Obama, would be an understatement.

Maybe Barack Obama just didn't have his teleprompter working when he made all these...uh..lies...uh...distortions...expressions of megalomania...uh...gaffes.

OTA Open Trackback 09.14.08

As the lovely Samantha Burns says:

Please use this space to trackback your best, main page articles (I just require a link to this article, as always). Also, if you have something to discuss, it is welcomed here as well.

ADVICE: Trackback main blog page articles to showcase your work (and it will help to attract readers).

Yep, I was in a plagiarizing mood ;-) Nevertheless, it's a good way to draw more attention to your blog, so trackback away :-) I'll have one of these each Monday, because, well, I hate Mondays ;-p

Please refrain from using international accent marks in your post URL. The inline trackback script will fail if those are used.

Do NOT link your open trackback post here. Use Linkfest Haven instead.

Obama's new politics

Words matter, but actions that contradict words matter even more.

Barack Obama's latest ad may appeal to a DailyKos or idiot Myspacer mentality, but it certainly doesn't match up with his rhetoric of elevating political discourse. But then if one has been paying attention, this would be no surprise.

Swiped from HotAir:

And then we have this, also from HotAir:

Earlier today, Barack Obama’s campaign released an ad attacking John McCain for not knowing how to send an e-mail.  Their crack research team apparently never heard of Google or Lexis-Nexis, but Jonah Goldberg does.  He discovers why McCain doesn’t use a keyboard — his torturers made sure he couldn’t.  The Boston Globe reported it eight years ago...

As they say, read it all.

Sure, one could argue that Obama didn't intend to make fun of a handicapped war hero's inability to easily use a keyboard, he just meant to make fun of old people. Oh wait.

ABC News wins the Juan Cole award!

Charlie Gibson will soon be accepting the award. What is this award you ask? "Let me 'splain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up." Rather than repeat the opening line to a previous post, whenever someone demonstrates similar behavior, it makes for a better title to create an award that encapsulates the jackassery that Juan Cole demonstrated. Besides, Juan Cole is quite an impressive example and naming the award after him is just too obvious to pass by.

This is just for the first part of the Sarah Palin/Charlie Gibson interview, shown Thursday night. Fortunately for ABC, I'll consider the series of interviews to be one overall event, to save them the embarrassment of multiple awards. I'm just that nice.

God's plan lie

And ABC tries to erase that lie from history

Apparently, the multiple levels of fact checking at ABC news have never heard of Google or of blogs that are anything other than liberal/left. Or maybe lying just takes less time and effort.

Gotcha game with "Bush doctrine"

[...]

Anyone who criticizes Sarah Palin, then, for asking Charlie Gibson to be more specific about the "Bush Doctrine" is trying to mislead you in at least two ways:

  • They're pretending that the term "Bush Doctrine" has a single clear, unambiguous meaning that anyone who follows national affairs ought to have immediately recognized. It doesn't, as I think this post and the materials I've linked here more than adequately establish.
  • They're pretending that because Gov. Palin didn't immediately try to guess which of several plausible meanings Gibson meant to give that term, but instead asked for clarification, she therefore must have been unprepared to discuss any of them. Gov. Palin herself disproved that premise, because upon receiving the requested clarification, she immediately responded with clarity and self-assurance.

If they had bothered to look, even the Wikipedia could have cured Josh Marshall, Greg Sargent, or Andrew Sullivan of their illusion that there's a single, simple meaning to the term "Bush Doctrine." When it comes to any discussion of Gov. Sarah Palin, these folks have shown us yet again that they just can't be trusted to get their basic facts right.

Be sure to read the entire article to understand fully how the author reaches the above conclusion.

Unfortunately, there is intense competition for this prized award, can't just give it out to everyone. Runner ups to the Juan Coley would be those who are running with both of these biased and falsified talking points and disparaging Governor Palin in the media, on blogs, Myspace etc.

Congratulations to ABC for providing another demonstration that the media is biased to the left. For those that still think the media is biased to the right, I'm sorry, but I haven't decided on an award for that just yet. I do laugh pretty loud at such a notion, if that helps.

PS - That would be me laughing at you, not with you.
