Rational Response Squad...

Master baiters and not much more.

I'm sure the (ir)rationals are gloating over the media attention their "Blasphemy" challenge has generated. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the recent Nightline segment was also an example of incompetence by the reporter or intentional omission to justify another segment to further milk the story for ratings. Such shallow reporting requires an extended post to cover what was lacking from the show.

The reporter seemed rather incredulous and rightfully so, that someone 30 years old, has no real job, other than attacking religion from his basement Internet connection. Unfortunately certain details were left out, or simply missed due to a lazy research effort. This left several items in the show without balancing elements.

One that stood out to me right away was The Sap being eager to show the reporter hateful messages sent to him, as if atheists of his bent are vestigial virgins in that regard. Furthermore, the reporter could have, but didn't, for whatever reason, bother to ask The Sap, why it's then ok for him to have said this:

"I lost my mother to Jesus, and vow to conquer those who have led her to harm, yeah... no bullsh*t. Well, I should clarify, she is still alive but her brain has been melted down to a non functioning level where synapses wont connect, known as born again christianity... she has become Christarded. I hate theism, I do not hate theists"

---

If I could get a mental health clinic (I couldn't) to admit someone for fervent belief with no evidence specifically Christianity, and I could get my mother to go (I couldn't), I'd take her, pay for it, support her, be there for her, whatever.

Such comments need no further commentary from me.

Certainly some Christians, and those only superficially claiming the name, are immature and hateful with their responses, and this is wrong. However, that Brian uses this to justify his pseudonym while other atheists, members of the (ir)rationals  and assorted hangers on, criticize apologist J.P. Holding of Tekton ministries for doing the same, as if it's a meaningful point, smacks of downright hypocrisy.

I could point out more but Frank Walton at Atheism Sucks! has covered a few already with his post here:

Berman states that Brian's methods leave it open for critics to call him "disrespectful." Brian replies,

"If I knew that their belief system was wrong and I didn't say something, that would be much more disrespectful."

Well jimeny jillickers, Brian! Since I know that your belief system is wrong and if I didn't say something, that would be much more disrespectful. So can you blame me when I make articles against you? All you do in return is just cuss me out...

The Nightline article about the show, includes The Sap responding to the charge that they're not being very nice with their tactics:

"We are not indoctrinating people," he says. "There is no fear of hell in what we do, in our activities. We don't tell people that if they do believe in God they are going to hell. We are against fear-based systems."

No, you don't reference hell, but you do say believers are irrational, that religion is a mind f*ck, a disease etc. Those are certainly not means of persuasion that place you on some supposed moral high ground compared to some Christians who harp far too often on hell. For someone billed as the (ir)rationals philosophy "expert" by the self-proclaimed ancient texts/historian "expert" of the group, it seems rather odd that he would miss that point. But typical of his little team, what they do is fine, no matter what, while pronouncing judgement on those they disagree with.

Another problem with the reporting was stating that the DVD, The God Who Wasn't There, was actually a "hard-hitting documentary". That DVD is nothing but crap scholarship and has been responded to multiple times by Christians. Another instance of omission by incompetence or a desire to stoke the controversy further.

A Review of Brian Flemming's DVD "The God Who Wasn't There"
The God Who Wasn't There: an Analysis
Great Expectorations Or, The Apostate Who Wasn't All There

Another part of the show that presented no balancing elements, was The Sap inviting anyone to present their evidence.

"If they want to come to the table and present their evidence, I will present my evidence. And we will see how much of theirs is based on faith, and how much of mine is based on fact."

There are several rather funny elements to his claim, once one has more information. For one, as part of the devastating criticism of the DVD they're pimping, there is also the fact that real scholars dismiss the idea that Jesus did not exist as the purview of cranks. It is simply not debatable in serious academic circles. Those that choose to remain committed to the notion that Jesus did not exist, are relying less on evidence and more on their ability to stick their heads in the sand. In addition to this, is the tendency for The Sap and little rookie, also of the (ir)rationals, to run away from debates.

Brian Sapient of "Rational Responders" fame chickens out

...how often do you hear about 2 atheists debating one another? Not often. Which is why I was anticipating a debate between Brian Sapient (picture to your left) and Jim Lazarus. Sapient who thinks he's a rational fella (he's not) was challenged by Lazarus to debate whether or not theism can be rational. Guess what happened? Sapient ran from the debate!

Will Rook Hawkins of the "Rational Responders" fame take on JP Holding?

Rook was asked to debate Holding in an independent forum with an independent moderator. He has refused to debate this simple and fair format...

The Sap also has a misunderstanding of Biblical faith as I've covered here. It is loyalty based on evidence of performance. Unfortunately, too many Christians think evidence is not relevant and such misinformation was only helped by the Christian interviewed for the show who had this to say:

Liles says Brian is simply missing the point. Faith is not something that can or should be proven, she says.

Sorry, but there are Christians who are more informed than that Episcopalian minister. Hardly surprising the reporters would be so under informed as to not have a clue as to who to contact for the show.

For all their blather, the (ir)rationals have also made enemies on the atheist side. It's rather humorous to see non-Christians show great disdain for the (ir)rationals in the Christian group I frequent on myspace. I've also been told that the (ir)rationals are possibly thought even less of, in the atheists/agnostic group on myspace than in that Christian group.

So, the (ir)rationals may be quite clever at generating controversy for a media desperate for such and getting the under informed and easily stirred up youth making silly videos, but they also create unintended consequences. They anger other atheists with their methods and self-proclaimed expert status regarding the Bible and whatever else they feel the need to stroke their egos with. Some, may even turn to God over such antics or their curiosity raised to do some research and actually accept Christ in the long run. Another possibility is that some Christians are motivated to research the faith more thoroughly. Those who do so, with honest endeavor, will find there is no need to fear the strutting arrogance of people like the (ir)rationals. Then there are those of us who have already studied and look at the (ir)rationals as a source of some amusement. Sure, they may be irritating at times, but the end result is that one either chooses to serve God or one ends up being a tool for God. Considering the unintended consequences of their idiocy, I have to almost laugh once more, thinking of how all this will shake out, once the entire story of this world has been completed.

The urge to laugh is however blunted by the knowledge that some will strut and preen until the very end and encourage others to do the same. They justify every rejection of God's outreach to them and do so proudly, only to find all their rationalizations blown away as refuse and chaff and the truth they've long denied exposed. In that day, they will know they had enough evidence, it was always there, but they chose to reject it for reasons insufficient and glorified themselves in self-adulation for doing so. It's bad enough that Christians err too many times and create stumbling blocks to the faith. How much worse for those who do so intentionally and with childish glee? I pray they soon come to their senses rather than find the answer by way of experience.

Barack Obama wants to end the bloodshed

The Senator from Illinois and messianic candidate for President, has proposed a binding resolution regarding Iraq.

Obama Offers Plan to Stop Escalation of Iraq War, Begin Phased Redeployment of Troops

The legislation commences redeployment of U.S. forces no later than May 1, 2007 with the goal of removing all combat brigades from Iraq by March 31, 2008, a date that is consistent with the expectation of the bipartisan Iraq Study Group.

[...]

I suppose that along with the Iraq Surrender Group, he'll also want us to bend over and take a few from Iran and Syria. According to Obama:

...too many lives have been lost and too many billions have been spent,"

Considering the latest reports of how many we've captured and killed, that Sadr's forces are demoralized and he's once again angling for political cover and Al Qaeda has been ordered out of Baghdad in anticipation of our surge, one has to wonder what loss of life Obama is trying to stop.

Just one of the stupid points in the resolution:

Stops the Escalation: Caps the number of U.S. troops in Iraq at the number in Iraq on January 10, 2007.

Yeah, let's do that. They're on the run just with our ramp up of operations before the surge has begun in full. Let's make sure we don't follow through on our successes. The enemy needs a breather and time to regroup after all.

Unlike other politicians, at least he has the balls to propose a binding resolution. Although, one wonders if it's reasonable to think such a bill would get very far to begin with. The more certain that it won't succeed the less courage is obviously involved. Whatever the level of testicular fortitude he has, it's unfortunately attached to a mind spouting incredibly poor judgement.

That such an individual is a leading candidate for the Democrat party, says little about the current condition of that party.

When a whiney little beotch forgets their meds

Ted Rall, who else?

MEMO TO REPUBLICANS: SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UP!

Iraq Fiasco Exposes Faith-Based Reasoning

NEW YORK--Attention right-wing neoconservative Republicans: We Americans have done things your way since 1981, when an actor named Reagan convinced us that we weren't entitled to anything from the government other than a canceled check for our taxes. We supported dictators against democratic movements. We started wars against tiny weak countries like Grenada and Panama and Afghanistan just because we could. Even when we had a Democratic president, he bought into Reagan Republicanism; Clinton cut rich people's taxes, signed NAFTA and got rid of social welfare programs.

[...]

It only continues with more idiocy.

I've already commented on this fools antics, see previous posts at the end of this one. He is not an individual prone to reason or logic, which is clear if you've seen his attempts at political humor with his cartoons.

Suffice it to say, that I see no reason to back off my previous estimations of the "man".

He is either flirting with becoming a holocaust denier or he is merely braying for attention as only a spoiled, maladjusted, childish and mentally deficient jackass can.

Considering the content of that "comic", one has to wonder if the little twit is simply jealous (scroll down) and has to release his frustrations this way because he suffers from excessive dermal abrasion doing it in the traditional manner.

For people too stupid to realize it

And too thin skinned to handle a simple and polite request, I do not want trackbacks to my blog posts announcing your open trackbacks. The only exception would be if you referenced my blog post as per normal blog etiquette, as some also write commentary as part of their open trackback posts.

For those with thick skulls, who still have issues, if I say this in bold when I host an open trackback:

Do NOT link your open trackback post here. Use Linkfest Haven instead.

Do you really think I'm going to go about face and want you spamming multiple posts at my blog with your open trackback announcement?

And as for the twit who said they didn't ask me for advice and prompted this post with their idiocy, it is my blog. So, when you interact with my blog improperly, you will get advice on how to correct that. For that individual who couldn't handle my polite request - again, get over yourself.

When a temp has more guts than our politicians

Ryan, formerly the temp of The Office, has something to say about radical Islam (thanks to SondraK)

Considering how the whackjobs reacted to mere cartoons, I hope B.J. Novak, the actor who plays Ryan, has some bodyguards. At least he has balls, something that's missing from much of the rest of world and many politicians here.

More die in Iraq

If you've been watching the typical MSM news on television lately, you would probably suspect the title to be followed by a list of American casualties. The list might even include photos of those fallen, as CNN showed today during a news program. Such presentations only give the impression that we are doing nothing but dying, the enemy acting with impunity and not suffering as much or even more than our troops. That simply is not the case.

U.S. and Iraqi forces kill 250 militants in Najaf

NAJAF, Iraq (Reuters) - U.S. and Iraqi forces killed 250 gunmen in a fierce battle involving U.S. tanks and helicopters on the outskirts of the Shi'ite holy city of Najaf on Sunday, a senior Iraqi police officer said.

[...]

Unfortunately, early reports are that a U.S. helicopter went down and both crewmen were killed. It should be clear, however, that our troops, along with the Iraqis, are inflicting much greater damage on the terrorists, even before the surge is fully underway.

Sadly, the unbalanced reporting of the MSM is attempting to inflict a larger emotional toll on the American psyche. This reflexive tendency, or for some, intentional betrayal, is only amplified and helped along by people who are too lazy to do more than click channels on their TV remotes.

That however, does not completely absolve the journalists, who in their ivory towers, decide how the news should be shaped. We are at war. Those who have the responsibility to inform us, should do so in a balanced manner.

Yes, our troops are dying, but it's within the context of a complicated war and one in which the enemy is suffering greater loss. For a media so transfixed on death counts, why do so many ignore or only briefly mention what the enemy experiences? Their fetish for remaining "neutral" only results in their destroying our will to fight. At best, this is incredibly foolish on their part. Yet, for those who are only foolish, others are intentionally adversarial. We used to  have the guts to call that treason. Can a country that refuses to see such actions for what they are, still have the courage to stand up to a determined enemy?

Tits and tats and John Kerry

Or, John F'n Kerry wants to seductively display his man boobs. One can only guess at the pathetic motivations of a Senator criticizing U.S. foreign policy while overseas, in the presence of a former Iranian President who only months ago, defended executing gays. His behavior is similar to that of the ditzy chicks, which garnered them a glossy, nude cover photo, air brushing and all.

Kerry: U.S. A "Pariah" Nation Under Bush

"When we walk away from global warming, Kyoto, when we are irresponsibly slow in moving toward AIDS in Africa, when we don't advance and live up to our own rhetoric and standards, we set a terrible message of duplicity and hypocrisy," Kerry said.

"So we have a crisis of confidence in the Middle East — in the world, really. I've never seen our country as isolated, as much as a sort of international pariah for a number of reasons as it is today."

This is ridiculous for it's inaccuracy. Kyoto was rejected by Clinton and the Senate. The Bush administration has already spent more on Africa, to help fight AIDS, than Clinton did in his entire eight years and the administration wants to increase the amount as noted by Ed Morrissey at Captain's Quarters.

He took the time to scold the Bush administration for its lack of effort on AIDS and other diseases in Africa. However, Bush has already spent more on these issues than the last Democratic administration did in eight years. Humanitarian aid to Africa comprised $1.4 billion a year at the end of the Clinton administration, but Bush has tripled that to $4 billion per year -- and wants to more than double it over the next two years:

Ed's conclusion:

So not only is John Kerry a hypocrite, he's also an ignoramus. However, we have noticed that the Davos forum has become, over the years, a convention of sorts for both. Kerry should feel right at home.

Unfortunately, Kerry continues:

"We need to do a better job of protecting our interests, because after all, that's what diplomacy is about," he said. "But you have to do it in a context of the reality, not your lens but the reality of those other cultures and histories."

Kerry criticized what he called the "unfortunate habit" of Americans to see the world "exclusively through an American lens."

And our lens should be what, that of holocaust deniers, those that speak of creating another holocaust, those that hang rape victims and gays and support terrorists that kill our troops? Should we wait until our women are forced under burqas and we all suffer under dhimmitude and view from that lens?

"I don't care how many troops are put in — Iraq is not going to be pacified," Kerry said. "Now, we are partly responsible. The absence of legitimate significant diplomacy is a disgrace. Quick flights in by a secretary of state are not diplomacy."

He's never heard of a phone? I wonder if he'll apply the same criteria to Pelosi and Senator Clinton's quickie "fact finding" trips to Iraq? Never pacified? This guy apparently loves to give propaganda points to our enemies.

"There should be a special envoy, maybe a joint bipartisan special envoy. Why not a President Clinton together with a Republican of high ability, and bring them together and really work the process?"

Because BJ did such a good job with the Israeli and Palestinian problem? Kerry still apparently thinks that diplomacy is always best. Well, at least after he's voted for military action, you know, that whole voted for before voting against it thing.

You can see a video at Hotair of Kerry's remarks. Allahpundit also has this to say:

The unwritten rule about politics ending at the water’s edge is long gone and we’re going to have to think very hard now about how best to restore it. If that means Gingrich or Giuliani going over to Israel or Australia or Japan when the Democrats are back in the White House and badmouthing the new president’s foreign policy, so be it. Tit for tat.

Unfortunately, I don't see much of a receptive audience in the world for such a tit for tat response. Maybe in new Europe or perhaps Australia to some extant, or some Asian countries maybe. Certainly, the MSM, which twists the language so that bipartisan always means doing what Democrats or the left says, will only respond in their biased manner and then flip back when an administration to their liking is in power. At best, it will only justify continuing such tactics while also removing the possibility of holding to the moral high ground, while beating them over the head with it.

Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit sums Kerry up:

JOHN KERRY does it again. Like Jimmy Carter, he'll never forgive America for rejecting him, and he'll console himself with the approval of America's enemies.

But hey, maybe Lurch will get a sexy photo spread just like the ditzy chicks.

I think, therefore I am

While it may be some time before we have to consider such testimony from a robot, some may be surprised at the advancement that robots have achieved in recent years. Primarily, the ability to walk in a manner that is more human than previous attempts. What the future holds should quite interesting.

Asimo, by Honda, seems to be gaining the most recent headlines, with the latest version appearing at CES. The ability to maneuver and even run, while not tethered to a larger computer is quite a move forward and one that I wasn't aware had been achieved yet.

An interesting video interview via CNET here.

A rather good article about Asimo is available here, that also covers other robots being developed.

As alluded to in the CNET interview, making such devices visually non-threatening is important. I'm sure some will have dire predictions, we've seen such before in science fiction. As with any tool or technology, what is contained within man will find opportunity for expression. Along with the darkness however, there also exists great beauty.

The devices are interesting demonstrations for technology. Yet, even with only limited application now, within a decade or two we may see much more integration of such devices in our daily lives. Will a future design become a break out hit like the Ipod? It would seem that Sony is hoping for that with the audio from their flash presentations for QRIO. The vocal inflections, in my view, being rather over the top in stressing, friendliness, relationship and just down right enthusiasm!

Technology has a tendency to rush ahead of our ethics. Unfortunately, some think that simply because we can, means that we should. How long, before we actually create the moral dilemmas, that were only a part of science fiction not long ago?

Many promises are made by those pushing the envelope of technology. As something of a geek, I find the future of robotics quite interesting and even hopeful. However, my enthusiasm is slightly blunted knowing of the ridiculous extremes some will go to in relating to such devices or the depths of depravity others may choose to explore. Such things preceding the dilemma of creating a device that is sentient or self-aware, on a level near that of humanity, if such is even possible.

It should be clear to us by now, that technology is not our savior, but only a means of further expression of the human condition, for bad or for good.

I offer no predictions other than:

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times; it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness; it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity; it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness; it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair; we had everything before us, we had nothing before us; we were all going directly to Heaven, we were all going the other way." Charles Dickens, A Tale of Two Cities

The Nuge kicks 'em in the nads

I'll never forget hearing Ted Nugent on a local talk radio station at work one day. The Motor City madman hasn't been called a motor mouth for nothing. Over the years he's stood up for hunters, gun owners and stood against drugs, to name a few causes he's been involved with.

Recently, he's been accused of making racist remarks. Let's see how the Nuge deals with his accusers.

Surprise, more lies aimed at a lover of America, liberty

[...] In total defiance to the vicious lies and hateful allegations of “racism” leveled at me by irresponsible, unprofessional and downright goofy media punks, I never said a word about immigration or language, specifically not the alleged slam against “illegal immigrants” or “non-English-speaking” anyone.

Those are pure, unadulterated lies created by a hyper-liberal media which have failed forever to take me on regarding any quality-of-life issues in America.

They are cowardly, with nothing of substance to offer. Many of the media’s so-called writers and reporters so desperately despise my long-running, unstoppable promotion of hunting and gun rights, it causes them to dump all logic and clarity in their soulless scramble to, what they have admitted, “destroy” this Nugent guy. Tsk, tsk.

[...]

To call me a racist is indeed hard evidence that the accuser is indeed a racist, insane, pathetic and soulless. Go figure.

Meanwhile, my spirit soars, ...They will lose, I will win. Period.

[...]

I will recruit many more NRA members this year. I will kill and distribute more tonnage of pure venison for the magnificent Hunters For The Hungry program.

I will increase the hunting trips we provide for needy children and wounded military heroes and their families. I will turn up the heat to expose the vacuity and antiAmerican agenda of the left.

I will increase my war on drugs, against drinking and driving, and against tolerance for crime and stupidity. I will intensify my fight for a united America by demanding all Americans speak English.

I need no one’s authorization for my experiment in “self-government.” God and I have a deal. We’re on it. We’re rockin’.

And keep on rockin! Be sure to read his entire article for the smackdown wherein he goes over his musical past. As he said, calling him a racist reveals more about the accuser than anything about himself.

The "journalists", though dismissal quotes seem rather redundant considering the MSM performance on Iraq and other issues, must surely feel they've grabbed a much larger cat by the tail then they had hoped. Well, duh, what do you think will happen when you lie about someone who has a concert performance consisting of this:

“We’re celebrating the victory in Iraq” he proclaimed before “Wango Tango” and bragged, “There ain’t no such thing as a French cowboy!” He should tour with the USO. “I love when Americans kill assholes!” he added before playing “Raw Dogs, War Hogs.” The relatively new song “Kiss My Ass” was dedicated to fellow Americans the Dixie Chicks and also mentioned a not so surprising disdain for Jesse Jackson and Janet Reno.

Believe it or not, it gets even better.

At one point, the Motor City Madman donned a bow and arrow, aiming across the stage. A Saddam Hussein life-sized cutout dangled in effigy. The mock dictator’s reign was ended by a shot from Nugent…directly in the heart. Favorites “Cat Scratch Fever” and “Stranglehold” stirred the crowd into a frenzy .The closing cover of the national anthem was typically overstated. As he left the stage, he raised an assault rifle in one hand and a guitar in the other. With an unapologetic and devilish smile, he yelled, “This is my American dream!”

I like that dream. Though I'll probably never be any good with the guitar, I do have some firearms and plan to add to the collection some day. If the last part of that sentence causes some to soil their pants, too bad.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - wants to reach out and touch you

Does anyone seriously believe this madman wants to reach out and give others a warm embrace? My previous post noted that we're finally turning up the heat on Iran for meddling in Iraq. Now comes this breaking news about Iran's launch capabilities.

Iran Set to Try Space Launch

Iran has converted its most powerful ballistic missile into a satellite launch vehicle. The 30-ton rocket could also be a wolf in sheep's clothing for testing longer-range missile strike technologies, Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine reports in its Jan. 29 issue.

The Iranian space launcher has recently been assembled and "will liftoff soon" with an Iranian satellite, according to Alaoddin Boroujerdi, the chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.

[...]

Analysts at the strategic think tank GlobalSecurity.org believe that the new Iranian modification could be a stepping stone to an Iranian clone of the North Korean Taep'O-Dong 2C/3 ballistic missile that failed in a launch attempt from North Korea last July 4.

A November 2006 Congressional Research Service report reinforced concerns over Iranian and North Korean missile development ties. It notes that Israel's military intelligence chief has information indicating that North Korea has shipped to Iran eighteen 1,500 mi. range BM-25 ballistic missiles capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.

President Bush certainly didn't make up that axis of evil membership role out of thin air. It's bad enough, thinking of the current Iranian regime having nuclear weapons, let alone, the ability to launch them more than a 1,000 miles.

"Largely with foreign help, Iran is becoming self-sufficient in the production of ballistic missiles," says the report's author, Kenneth Katzman. And he reminds that a 2006 U.S. National Security Strategy Document notes, "The United States may face no greater challenge from a single country than Iran."

The world needs to realize this is a collective challenge before it's too late. Unfortunately, some may think bartering for their own safety, at the expense of others is more to their liking. Their short range calculations only obscuring the long term consequences and certain disaster awaiting them.

Perhaps the world will be able to breath a sigh of relief when the launch attempt fails. One can only hope, as too many in leadership positions, even in this country, prefer to negotiate with another madman, forgetting the painful lesson of history and the holocaust that this tyrant denies, while he also boasts of one coming in the future.

Kill or capture

I like it that the words are not in alphabetical order.

Troops Authorized to Kill Iranian Operatives in Iraq

The Bush administration has authorized the U.S. military to kill or capture Iranian operatives inside Iraq as part of an aggressive new strategy to weaken Tehran's influence across the Middle East and compel it to give up its nuclear program, according to government and counterterrorism officials with direct knowledge of the effort.

It's about time. When elements of the Iranian regime have been helping to kill our troops and Iraqis, they should face the most serious consequences possible. What's interesting is while we've been avoiding this type of confrontation, we've been gathering intelligence that will no doubt be helpful as we turn up the heat.

For more than a year, U.S. forces in Iraq have secretly detained dozens of suspected Iranian agents, holding them for three to four days at a time. The "catch and release" policy was designed to avoid escalating tensions with Iran and yet intimidate its emissaries. U.S. forces collected DNA samples from some of the Iranians without their knowledge, subjected others to retina scans, and fingerprinted and photographed all of them before letting them go.

The orders cover more than Iraq however.

The administration's plans contain five "theaters of interest," as one senior official put it, with military, intelligence, political and diplomatic strategies designed to target Iranian interests across the Middle East.

The White House has authorized a widening of what is known inside the intelligence community as the "Blue Game Matrix" -- a list of approved operations that can be carried out against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon. And U.S. officials are preparing international sanctions against Tehran for holding several dozen al-Qaeda fighters who fled across the Afghan border in late 2001. They plan more aggressive moves to disrupt Tehran's funding of the radical Palestinian group Hamas and to undermine Iranian interests among Shiites in western Afghanistan.

There is much more to the article, covering concerns and debates about any escalation running out of control. Unfortunately, they also have to include a source that whines about the usual. This person must have a 3G connection to the DNC for their cell phone.

"This has little to do with Iraq. It's all about pushing Iran's buttons. It is purely political," the official said. The official expressed similar views about other new efforts aimed at Iran, suggesting that the United States is escalating toward an unnecessary conflict to shift attention away from Iraq and to blame Iran for the United States' increasing inability to stanch the violence there.

Unnecessary conflict? I suppose we should just say please a few more times and maybe they'll reduce the number of shaped charge warheads they send per month. The following video pretty much sums up such foolishness.

Kill or capture

Works for me.

Talking out of both sides of your mouth

Senator Kerry received much ridicule for doing such, even with some time passing between his flip flops. Of course, it didn't help when he uttered that voted for it before voting against it line, a gift wrapped present to one's political opposition, to say the least.

We now have various members of Congress acting in similar fashion. The difference being political CYA when the lives of our troops and that of Iraqis and others are on the line.

Congress's Iraq Quagmire

...Such is the muddle of Congress on Iraq: A majority may soon go on record opposing the new offensive in Baghdad even while encouraging the commander who leads it.

[...]

The article concludes with advice to how Congress should act.

But legislators need a better way to act on their opposition to the current policy than the passage of nonbinding resolutions that may cover them politically but have no practical impact -- other than, perhaps, the negative one suggested by the general.

As it happens, Gen. Petraeus made his own suggestion at Tuesday's hearing, offering to report to Congress regularly about the mission, including updates on the performance by Iraqis on their commitments. [...] Taking Gen. Petraeus up on that, and closely and systematically monitoring the progress of events in Iraq during the coming months, is probably the best contribution that Congress can make to helping the new American commander address what he calls a "dire" situation.

Decent advice, except for the fact that the current CYA contingent will only use it for their own ends. Such hearings, if publicized, will only devolve into a chance for such to sputter political sound bites and criticism, with nary a hint of what can be done to actually improve the situation. Their position, semantic window dressing aside, only being that we run away as the enemy has stated they would very much like for us to do.

No matter their political affiliation, at the very least, their judgement is in serious question. As to their patriotism, it's their decision to talk of giving the enemy what it wants. When has a nation been able to claim victory, or survive, when it  constantly gives in to a hardened enemy that only responds to such with more demands and more violence?

"Sometimes I watch a single video and I get very emotional"

You don't say sparky?

*Warning* much swearing in the following videos, once you get past the odd intro in the first one. (Thanks to Ace)

Not a very tasteful display of a the British accent, to say the least. Not to mention the sheer idiocy that apparently thinks that rage and spittle spewing is sufficient for an argument. You might be surprised to learn that little rage boy says in other videos that he's against killing. One has to wonder, which is being played up and manufactured? His stance against killing or his apparent rage? Or, is he just that unstable?

I for one, prefer this version:

I think the chipmunk accent works much better for rage boy when he's been called a "very handsome fellah" by another guy.

A question for Bill Clinton's wife

As the Hillary!Sillary!Shrillary! campaign and media lovefest begins, I have to wonder if anyone in the MSM will ask this question of the Senator who hopes to be President.

"Senator Clinton, should you be elected President and the only disqualification for Sandy Berger being on your staff was his theft of documents from the National Archives, which he as admitted to, would you ask him to be on your staff, if you knew he would accept?"

I'm not going to hold my breath getting a straight answer from her or that anyone in the MSM will ask the question until they get a definitive answer. However, it appears that the GOP actually has a pair starting to descend ever so slightly.

This from Fox News (emphasis in bold added):

The Justice Department should administer a polygraph test to former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger to find out what documents he took from the National Archives in 2002 and 2003, Rep. Tom Davis wrote in a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales dated Monday.

[...]

This may be the only way for anyone to know whether Mr. Berger denied the 9/11 commission and the public the complete account of the Clinton administration's actions or inactions during the lead up to the terrorist attacks on the United States," Davis wrote.

The letter was signed by all Republican members of Congress.

Anyone want to take bets on how long that bit of news will remain on the network news shows? You could probably measure it in nanoseconds.

Berger agreed to take a polygraph test as part of a plea deal reached in September 2005. As part of the guilty plea, he was also sentenced to 100 hours of community service, two years probation, three years of lost security clearance and a $50,000 fine plus court costs.

It's rather disturbing that the Justice Department has not availed itself of the opportunity to administer the test, per the agreement. Falling short of it's duty only encourages much speculation and leaves us justifiably worried about what has been destroyed and for what reasons. It should also be noted that his security clearance matter ends in 2008, in time for a Hillary! presidency, hence the importance of the question I framed earlier.

A report issued two weeks ago by Davis said commission members expressed grave concerns about whether they had received all the relevant information on the Clinton administration's anti-terror activities. Archivists said they will never know what Berger took because none of the pages Berger said he took were inventoried.

Keep in mind that last sentence as we look at the next paragraph.

At the time of the report, Justice Department spokesman Bryan Sierra said the department "has no evidence that Sandy Berger's actions deprived the 9/11 commission of documents, and we stand by our investigation of this matter."

Well sure, if you don't know what you had in the first place, how can you have evidence that something was taken? Not a very secure position to be working from that. I have to wonder if Mr. Sierra was that uninformed at the time, or had to struggle to hide his smirk as he spoke those words.

This would be a laughable farce if it wasn't involving national security and information about what was or wasn't done by the previous administration regarding terrorism. At least the Republicans managed to sign a letter, hopefully the pressure on the Justice Department will continue until a serious investigation is launched into this matter.
