Memorial Day

In remembrance of our troops, who have sacrificed so much for our freedom and to help others escape tyranny and brutality. They're families endure much as their loved ones serve with honor now as as did those who served in the past.

Arlington

I remember seeing a special about the tomb of the unknown soldier some years ago. The devotion of the guard, precision and military pageantry created an aura of somber respect and demand for honor to be bestowed by all present. I'll never forget that and hope to some day see the changing of the guard in person.

tomb-duskdod01

Let us all remember what others must endure, that freedom would remain strong in this world.

9-11 - It's a conspiracy! v.1

or..

Sometimes you feel like a nut ...

but some people really are nuts

It's going to take several posts to cover all of the discussions I've been involved with lately on this matter. Suffice it to say, some think that because of all the unanswered questions, the only reasonable answer is there's a conspiracy of some sort. There is a difference between being uninformed or misinformed and intentionally maintaining such states. When my comments are harsh, they're directed at those who do everything they can to ignore when reasonable answers have been given and that they're arguments are continually falling apart.

I'll begin with my reply to someone who rattled off a list of the supposed mysteries recently. My next post will cover an extended discussion regarding the Pentagon. I'll have a closing comment or two that may end up in a third post, depending on how long the Pentagon post turns out to be. The point of all this is that finding reasonable answers is simply not that hard. I'll soon have links to resources in my sidebar, just above my first blogroll, so that others will have convenient access to what's available. For those savvy enough to look at urls, you'll notice just about everything comes from one site. This just emphasizes how easy it is to find this information.

Let us begin. As usual, the original comments in bold, with my replies interspersed in regular text. This exchange occurred after extended discussions, with others, regarding the Pentagon, but presented a good number of the usual yadda ya, so makes for a good start in this series. Links following the comments in bold are part of my reply as well.

Where we do think people really oversell this quote is in portaying it as some spookily accurate piece of foreknowledge, that the New Pearl Harbour was to justify regime change, war in Iraq or elsewhere in the Middle East. That really is a step too far, as you ll find out if you download "Rebuilding America's Defenses" and read if for yourself.

I think you're pulling that out of your ass but it would seem a red herring even if true. It isn't inconceivable that they were prevented from doing so, however, phone calls, transponders being turned off, lack of communication, unauthorized changes in course would indicate a hijack situation.

For Sunday

For some reason, this Bible passage had always been a favorite of mine. Something I recently read, stated it was theologically dense. Perhaps that put into writing, the feeling which has drawn me to these verses for so long? For general use, I prefer the language and cadence of the KJV, as that's what I grew up hearing and reading and IMO it suits this passage quite well. Seems like a good Sunday entry for my blog.

John 1

1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2) The same was in the beginning with God.

3) All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4) In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5) And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

6) There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

7) The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

8) He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9) That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10) He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

11) He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

12) But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

13) Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

14) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

15) John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.

16) And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.

17) For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

18) No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Happy Mother's Day

Mother, You Are an Angel,

The Lord has angels everywhere

to carry out His plans,

devoted servants acting as

His ears, His eyes, His hands.

They take the time to listen

to the questions children as,

to give an extra hug,

to volunteer for one more task...

They lift up those around them.

Their faith sets them apart.

The hLord can't do without them,

for they really are his heart.

His Spirit shines

through all the caring things

they do for others.

The Lord knows they are angels...

but we just call them mothers.

A moment of joy

My usual Saturday afternoon consists of walking to lunch and reading whatever books I have at the moment, while enjoying a good meal at The Bread Basket, a favorite restaurant of mine.

My walk takes me past a home where I've had the pleasure of talking to the father a couple times. He had noticed me walking by with a soccer ball last year and we struck up a conversation. It turns out he used to play professional soccer, though I forget for which country. Unfortunately, I am in no way as skilled as I was back in the day, but at the time, it was good exercise. In short, good people and they have several kids, which is what this post is about.

So, walking home from lunch today and their little boy starts talking to me from his yard. He wanted to make sure I didn't buy the Spiderman toy for my kids. You see, he had sprayed the web stuff on the grass and now was picking it up. His brother had sprayed it on the climbing rope, but he was too short to get it. He was very helpful, making sure I understood that I'll get grumpy if I buy it for my kids and they spray it all over like he did. Besides, you can throw away the web thing and still shoot missiles!

The innocence in his eyes, the enthusiasm in his voice and his concern that I not make the same mistake made me smile and laugh as I walked away. I couldn't help but think of what Christ said:

Mark 10:13-15

13) And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them.

14) But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

15) Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.

And to the little man, who was so helpful in advising me on what toys to get for my kids - I hope that if I ever do have children, they are as good as you. I pray that God grants your days many moments of joy, much as the one you so innocently granted me today.

God bless.

With friends like this...

Poor Dan Brown. I almost feel sorry for him, when people offer this kind of defense of his book The Da Vinci Code (DVC). Name withheld to protect the clueless.

By the way, _The DaVinci Code_ was incredibly interesting and raised serious, legitimate questions. And that stands whether 10% or 100% of it is fiction. You're afraid of it's claims, for whatever reason. And FYI, I am quite well read, and intimately familiar with the Catholic faith. Your puny defense is to attack the credibility of the reader who may like the book.

Besides the laughable "100% fiction yet still serious, legitimate questions" comment, one can easily see my post about The Da Vinci Code -- a symptom... was much more than this person stated. Kind of funny, when they claimed to be well read. Apparently that high volume of reading doesn't include much skill with reading comprehension.

I have to also chuckle at "intimately familiar with the Catholic faith" and not being able to see the many errors in the book. Perhaps this individual confused personal knowledge of daily Catholic life with knowledge of church history and Christianity's early years. But that's not surprising coming from someone making such statements about Brown's work in the DVC.

Another item and I believe Dan Brown has made the same point, is that revealing the errors in his book, is showing fear, as if we're afraid of the truth. Notice the convenience of such a charge. If we don't point out the mistakes, then the claim would undoubtedly be, if it was wrong, they would say so. Yet, when we do, it's only because we're afraid of the truth it contains. Besides the fallacy of begging the question, we can see this is an unfalsifiable position. Sure, it's a convenient construct. However, I see no reason to think highly of such flim-flam.

Those who gleefully, and not always with good reason, toss around the unfalsifiable charge at people of faith in the scientific disciplines, would do well to recognize such in this case. Otherwise, it may be reasonable to conclude they only care about attacking orthodox Christianity and twisting, not only history, but distorting what the faith actually is, to such proportions as to make the word meaningless. I know, silly me, everyone that isn't Christian or claims to be one while criticizing the faith, is entirely objective. How could I think otherwise? Yeah right, and don't think that being a Christian or lazily tossing the label on your hat, saves you from the foregoing criticism either.

The Da Vinci Code -- a symptom...

...of a particular malady that tempts all of us. That being the avoidance of personal responsibility and accountability.

Some, who have never bothered to read serious books on Christian history, are believing a novel because it appeals to their itching ears and it says FACT in the beginning (hint - it's in the fiction aisle for a reason). Others, claim extensive and accurate research but when the many flaws are pointed out, tend to retreat behind - it's just a story.

What is most depressing, are those who give exuberant online reviews or say in message boards that it is fact and true. That they can't also do the research online, that would show differently is revealing. How hard is it to go to Amazon.com and look up books on the matter? Or just Google for Christian responses?

Here would be some resources, with actual information, if people were concerned more with actual knowledge, rather than just being tickled.

First a Google search simply using - da vinci code. The screen shot shows that just on the first page, with such simple search parameters, there are already resources with contrary information. (click for full size)

GoogleDaVinci

A quick search of Amazon reveals:

Both of which I have. Breaking the Da Vinci Code, is a quick read but very effective nonetheless. The Da Vinci Hoax, which I'm currently reading, looks to be very thorough and might make one feel sorry for Dan Brown once the smack down is finished.

For those disinclined to spend more money, you can always visit the links provided by simple Google searches as demonstrated above or a few that I found via Tekton Apologetics Ministries:

Not InDavincible -- A Review and Critique of The DaVinci Code
Crash Goes The Da Vinci Code
Was Jesus Married?
Cracking The Da Vinci Code

The question one must ask themselves is, am I more interested in merely having uniformed suspicions catered to, or am I more concerned with being accurately informed? While the book may be entertaining and the movie certainly appears to be so, we must not allow ourselves to avoid responsibility for seeking truth. It really is not that hard to be informed in this day and age.

Sadly, there will be some, who will only accept information by way of pop culture entertainment, rather than serious research, even that which requires minimal effort as I have shown here. What excuse will such have when face to face with God? Some will dare throw the responsibility on God and say, "but you didn't give us enough information".  They would avoid accountability, "If only I had known!", will be the attempted excuse. But what effort was made to know? What concern was there beyond entertainment and slavish devotion to only that which comforted rather than challenged? Even the pagans of old, who were serious in their worship, would not have been so presumptuous before the gods. To stand before the one true God with only excuses and pop culture entertainment backing you up, must surely be self-defeating. The fleeting satisfaction of a popular novel or movie in place of a desire and search for truth do not commend oneself well to even other people. Why would one expect God to be any different?

Osama Bin Laden video is fake

NOT!!

It's rather amazing that some are still claiming that the video wherein Osama admitted involvment in 9-11  was just a fake because at some angles and resolutions the guy didnt look like Osama or because he wore a "gold" ring.

Sorry, aint so:

Fake video

About that gold ring

I know the above may be old but I'm tired of seeing this meme still being pushed.
