Benazir Bhutto is now a martyr

Pakistan opposition leader Benazir Bhutto has been murdered. Despite her faults, the fact that she was trying to bring some democracy to Pakistan makes her a martyr infinitely more so than the animals that killed her and at least 20 others in the attack.

Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility, naturally.

“We terminated the most precious American asset which vowed to defeat [the] mujahadeen,” Al-Qaeda’s commander and main spokesperson Mustafa Abu Al-Yazid told Adnkronos International (AKI) in a phone call from an unknown location, speaking in faltering English. Al-Yazid is the main al-Qaeda commander in Afghanistan. (source thanks to Ace)

You can learn more about Benazir Bhutto from this obituary which covers the basics of her life and politics.

The murder of Benazir Bhutto is tragic on so many levels. The most immediate is the loss her family, friends and supporters must endure. My prayers for them and for those who also lost loved ones in this brutal attack.

Some have rushed to blame President Musharraf, because she was the opposition leader which gives him some motive. He also ties to the military and he's been playing extremists and moderates against each other for some time now. He needs the extremists to stay in power, yet we all know the danger of extreme Islamists gaining actual power in that country due to Pakistan having nuclear weapons.

There are no good choices here. Perhaps Musharraf will finally allow sustained military action by the U.S. and coalition countries in the lawless tribal regions that have been a haven for Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups. Doing so however, will require he institute martial law again and possibly delay the elections, which may push some of the moderate opposition into alliances with the extremists.

The tragedy that should now concern everyone is that nuclear weapons just moved a step closer to falling into the hands of Islamic extremists. The path ahead to preventing that is uncertain and undoubtedly bloody. For those inclined to, much prayer is needed for world leaders and those on the front lines, that they will have the wisdom and courage to avoid the worst possible outcome.

Mike Huckabee - illegal immigration flip flopper?

Mike Huckabee has of late tried to sound tough on illegal immigration. This is hardly surprising considering how important the issue is to Iowa voters and the upcoming Iowa caucus. Huckabee has been criticized for his scholarship for illegal aliens and Mexico consular office sweet deal, but he still maintains that he was strong in opposing illegal immigration when he was governor of Arkansas.

Perhaps in word, but not in action that was necessary to produce results.

Mike Huckabee is overselling his record of cracking down on illegal aliens as governor, claiming he ordered his state police to arrest illegal aliens when in fact he never signed the agreement with federal authorities that would have allowed it.

Mr. Huckabee signed a bill that began the process, but he never followed through with signing an agreement with the Department of Homeland Security to secure training for state police officers. Without it, they cannot enforce federal immigration law.

[...]

Immigration-control groups say they fear Mr. Huckabee could repeat President Bush's track record on immigration, which they say amounted to tough talk but a failure to follow through. (source)

That story prompted me to look a bit more into what's claimed at Mike Huckabee's campaign site.

Huckabee campaign site:

I oppose and will never allow amnesty.  I passionately rejected the amnesty bill that President Bush and Sen. McCain tried to ram through Congress this summer after secret meetings of an under-the-radar cabal of amnesty-loving senators.

However, Huckabee says he won't be placing illegal aliens at the back of the line, it will only take weeks or days, video here. So how is that not just another form of amnesty by way of a "touch back" shell game?

Huckabee campaign site:

I oppose giving driver's licenses to illegals, such as Governor Spitzer tried to do in New York.  I support legislation that would prevent the states from granting this privilege to illegals.  In 2005, I signed legislation that prevents illegals in Arkansas from getting driver's licenses.

And yet in 2001, while Arkansas governor, Mike Huckabee supported giving driver's licenses to illegal aliens. It's also interesting what else Mike Huckabee did in 2005.

"During the legislation session, Huckabee criticized an immigration bill by Republican senators Jim Holt of Springdale and Denny Altes of Fort Smith as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life.

Senate Bill 206, which died in the Senate, would have required proof of citizenship to register to vote and also force state agencies to report suspected cases of people living in the country illegally. Holt, R-Springdale, replied later to Huckabee's comments that Christian charity does not include turning a blind eye to lawbreaking." (source)

So, only two years ago Mike Huckabee was severely bashing proof of citizenship to vote and reporting illegals living in the state.

Huckabee campaign site:

I will not tolerate employers who hire illegals - they must be punished by fines and penalties so large that they will understand it is not worth the risk.

Except that Mike Huckabee criticized ICE raids of Tyson foods chicken plants when he was governor. Of course, per his usual shtick, he claimed his opposition was only about the children. Seems to me I've heard that "it's for the children" justification before and it's always about tugging at the emotions and deflecting for the issues at hand. I usually don't hear such from conservatives either.

It's also rather difficult to have your local law enforcement work with federal agents, when you conveniently don't get around to finalizing the negotiations, as noted previously.

Huckabee campaign site:

I oppose and will never allow amnesty.  I passionately rejected the amnesty bill that President Bush and Sen. McCain tried to ram through Congress this summer after secret meetings of an under-the-radar cabal of amnesty-loving senators.

Yet, out of the other side of his mouth.

2006: Supported President Bush's immigration plan and claimed that opposition to Bush's proposal was driven by "racism or nativism" and that it wasn't amnesty. (Ralph Hallow, "Huckabee 'Serious' About Presidency," Washington Times, 5/17/06)  (source)

Mitt Romney has declined in the polls lately, in part because he's seen as a person who will say anything to get elected. Whether or not that is true or substantial enough to reject him as a candidate, it's quite obvious that Mike Huckabee is cut from the same cloth, though he's much more adept at wiggling around his past.

Mike Huckabee is a great communicator. It's unfortunate that talent is in service to glossing over his flip flops on important issues or deflecting from the real matter and focusing on something else. Last time we elected someone that slick to the Presidency, we came away with the word clintonesque.

Fred Thompson - new campaign ad

I received the following email from the Fred Thompson campaign.

In just a few minutes I will be heading to the airport to fly out to Iowa for the final sprint before the January 3rd Caucuses.

I am writing today because now, more than ever, I need your help.

The first leg of our Iowa bus tour last week was phenomenal. We visited with voters in 21 cities and towns and did 21 events all across the state. Everywhere we went we were greeted by enthusiastic crowds of Iowans who are looking for a consistent conservative leader who will tell it like it is.

It's working: Just last Friday a new Strategic Vision poll showed me moving into a strong third at 16%.

We are poised for the great showing we want!

Just last week I picked up the endorsement of Congressman Steve King. He has been a champion in the fight to end illegal immigration, and I am pleased that he has joined our team. He's been with me on the bus and the great reception we've received on the tour has really put a jolt into this race.

This is where you come in.

I have a terrific new TV spot. You can see it now at Fred08.com. Take a look, and forward this message on to 10 of your friends.

I need your help to put it on the air. We need to put $248,846 in the bank before 6 PM EST on Friday, December 28th to do it.

Can you help me by making a contribution today? I know I've asked a lot, and you've done a lot, but this is critical to our success. Help me make history.

The Clear Conservative Choice: Hands Down bus tour will run from today to caucus day. We have a terrific ground game in place.

All we need is air cover--which the spot on our website will provide.

This ad will help me let the people of Iowa know that my plans for this country are the best that have been presented. It will help me make the case that not only am I the only reliable, consistent conservative in this race, but that I have the experience and the vision to lead our Party and our nation through difficult times.

I've always shot straight with you, now's no different. I need your help. Can I count on you?

Sincerely,

Fred Thompson

If you need to know more about Fred Thompson, check out the issues and white papers at Fred08.com. You can also learn more at the related posts I've provided at the end of this post.

This is the first Presidential campaign I've actually volunteered to be a part of. So far, I've made some phone calls along with my contribution. If you agree with me that Fred Thompson is the most conservative in the race, please help out Fred Thompson campaign any way you can.

Huckabee - what kind of preacher is this?

Mike Huckabee has been running as the Christian leader, he's a former Baptist preacher and has been speaking to churches while on the campaign trail, for which he charges $25,000. Yet in talking to Iowa voters before their upcoming caucus, he seems very much to be appealing to their pride and not being very honest about why he's been criticized on his foreign policy.

A vote for him, Huckabee says, would reinforce Iowans’ self-interest in their role as the first voters in the presidential contest.

“If we’re able to pull this off, do you think there will ever be a future candidate that will come and just throw some money at you and say, ‘Hey, you ought to vote for me’?” Huckabee asks an enthusiastic crowd packed into a high school auditorium in Sioux City.

“People will be coming to this state [in future caucuses] and they’ll work it, they’ll prove the value of the Iowa caucus like nothing else ever has. So it’s good for me; it’s good for you.”

[...]

Huckabee’s stump speech does touch glancingly on his record as governor and his policy views.

While it's understandable to be proud of being first in the primary schedule, the absence of much policy in his speeches, leaves him little to use as motivation. It's unfortunate that someone who should know scripture, should then be so emotionally manipulative as to border on appealing to pride. I'm sure many Iowa voters know that scripture says, "pride cometh before a fall". Has Mike Huckabee forgotten, or is his being elected more important than scripture?

Also, considering how close the race is in Iowa, it's rather presumptive for him to claim it only matters for Iowa if they vote for him. Sure, typical political rhetoric, but rather distasteful when one is also using man of God rhetorical cues and religious faith in such a crude and over bearing manner.

Perhaps just as bad, according to the report, he clumsily spins why he was criticized over his statements on foreign policy.

“I’m getting some criticism because I’ve even suggested that there were mistakes [in Iraq], primarily the light footprint concept,” Huckabee offers at a morning rally in Council Bluffs.

The only good explanation for that would be he was misquoted, otherwise the only other conclusions are he's stupid, seriously uninformed, or a liar. Also, a question raised by his spin on the matter is how little does he think of those he's addressing? The reporter notes the real reason he was criticized.

But it was not the size-of-force criticism — a common and inoffensive critique even among Republicans — he offered well into the Foreign Affairs piece that drew a rebuke from Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Rather, it was the start of his second paragraph that generated the buzz: “American foreign policy needs to change its tone and attitude, open up and reach out. The Bush administration's arrogant bunker mentality has been counterproductive at home and abroad.” (source)

It's no wonder he would avoid speaking much on foreign policy, considering the naiveté of that Foreign Affairs piece, as can be seen here, here and here. For those who have been impressed that Huckabee doesn't have speech writers, his response to criticism of his "bunker mentality" shot at the administration contradicts that, as well as being a Clintonian reply, all of which can be seen here. It also cuts against hoping that he was just uninformed about what he was actually criticized for in his latest campaign speeches.

So Mike Huckabee appeals to voters pride and assumes they are uninformed fools. If he keeps talking, he's going to show it's a good thing he's no longer a pastor. Hopefully that isn't at the expense of Christian influence in politics and/or the security and well being of the country.

A Christmas holiday message for our troops

You would hardly know this was from Fred Thompson as he doesn't actually appear in the video. He doesn't plug his campaign website either and instead focuses on those who have sacrificed so much with courage and honor. This is a much needed step way from politics in this campaign, that out shines attempts by the other candidates. Enjoy, and Merry Christmas everyone!

(Thanks to Stop The ACLU)

Dayum! Fred Thompson refuses to pander in Iowa

And to farmers no less - in Iowa! Asking a politician what they will do to help farmers inevitably leads to some sort of pandering support for agricultural subsidies. But not with Fred Thompson.

AKD: What will you do for the farmers of Bremer County?

FT: (laughs)

AKD: You knew this was coming, right?

FT: I would continue to enjoy the fruits of their labor. I’ve been looking all over Iowa for a bad steak and I can’t find it. Been trying my best. It’s not a matter of what I would do for the farmers. Farmers are not looking for a president to hand them something. Farmers want fair treatment and a chance to prosper in a free economy and that’s what I would help ensure. There’s a lot of programs we’ve got out there, some of which are good programs, some of which are not. And I think that we need to work our way through that and make sure we’re doing what’s good for the country, not just the farmers, not just the people of Iowa, not just the people of Tennessee. But good for the country. A sound policy that makes sense. I think there’s a lot more that we could do for the working farmer in terms of ecological programs and environmental programs - land conservation, soil conservation - that would be fair and it would be beneficial to the nation and to Iowa and to our country. We’re going to have to phase out the corporate welfare system we’ve got, however. There are extremely rich people living in skyscrapers in Manhattan that are receiving subsidy payments. I think that’s wrong. I’d put a stop to that if it was within my power. That still continues in this latest Farm Bill and it’s not right. There ought to be a cutoff at some level and it’s not right [to] have millionaires receiving farm subsidies. (source, thanks to Ace)

Be sure to read the entire article as other matters were covered, however this one obviously stands out. We all know the third rail of national politics is social security, but agricultural subsidies in Iowa most certainly qualifies as a dangerous subject as well. Kudos to Fred Thompson for saying what needs to be said. That takes courage and leadership. And concerning that third rail, social security, be sure to see Fred Thompson's white paper here, where he lays out his plan to protect and save social security.

Our country needs a President who will stand on principle, rather than pander when the tough questions are asked. Fred Thompson is showing us that he is that man. He deserves whatever support you can give him.

Mike Huckabee - a twofer

Baby Jesus is either crying or laughing or laughing so hard he's crying after Mike Huckabee attempted an obvious pander to a 7 year old to only end up later being pwned by the youngster.

“Who is your favorite author?” Aleya Deatsch, 7, of West Des Moines asked Mr. Huckabee in one of those posing-like-a-shopping-mall-Santa moments.

Mr. Huckabee paused, then said his favorite author was Dr. Seuss.

In an interview afterward with the news media, Aleya said she was somewhat surprised. She thought the candidate would be reading at a higher level.

“My favorite author is C. S. Lewis,” she said. (source)

Mike Huckabee's foreign policy indicated enough naiveté, but this - words escape me.

Fred Thompson - prolife

There are undoubtedly many single issue voters making their decisions as the primary and caucus race begins, Iowa being the first on Thursday, January 3rd, with 41 delegates at stake.

Let's see how the Republican candidates stack up with prolife groups, who are just as single issue as an individual voter, when it comes to abortion.

Huckabee - Has the endorsement of some individuals. I count nine here.
Mitt Romney - I couldn't find any
John McCain - ditto
Rudy Giuliani - ditto
Ron Paul - ditto

If any of my readers find some, please let me know.

When we look at Fred Thompson, we see that rather than just individuals who have other matters as a focus, Fred Thompson has the endorsement of at least 10 specifically right to life groups at the national and state level. Excerpts from some of those endorsements:

National Right to Life Endorses Fred

Marking the first major endorsement by a national grassroots organization in the Republican presidential contest, National Right to Life, the nation’s largest pro-life organization representing pro-lifers in fifty state affiliates and more than 3,000 local chapters, today announced its endorsement of former Senator Fred Thompson for President of the United State

Wisconsin Right to Life Endorses Fred

The Wisconsin Right to Life PAC is proud to endorse Fred Thompson. Fred Thompson’s stellar 100% right to life voting record and his personal commitment to the protection of human life is deeply appreciated by our organization. We strongly believe in his ability to win the presidential election.

South Carolina Citizens for Life Endorse Fred

Executive director Holly Gatling said, “South Carolina Citizens for Life is confident in Senator Fred Thompson’s resolve to protect and defend the most defenseless among us: our unborn children.” The group will be running radio ads to support Fred.

West Virginians for Life Endorsement

Fred Thompson is pro-life. He believes in the sanctity of human life and that every life is worthy of respect. He had a 100% pro-life voting record in the Senate and believes Roe v. Wade was a bad decision that ought to be overturned. He consistently opposed federal funding to promote or pay for abortion and supported the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, the Child Custody Protection Act, and President Reagan's Mexico City policy. While Fred Thompson supports adult stem cell research, he opposes embryonic stem cell research. He also opposes human cloning.

West Virginians for Life is the West Virginia state affiliate for the National Right to Life Committee.

Fred Thompson Receives Endorsement of California ProLife Council

"There are so many pro-life candidates in the race," said Lawrence Lehr, PAC Chairman.  "But Fred Thompson is clearly the one, consistently pro-life candidate with the ability to win in November.  It is important that pro-life voters rally around a candidate that can make a difference."

The California ProLife Council is the state affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee.

Virginia Society for Human Life endorses Fred Thompson

Virginia Society for Human Life, the oldest right to life organization in the country and the state's affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee announced their support for Fred Thompson.

Virginia SHL is the ninth state right to life organization to fall in behind the National Right to Life committee in endorsing Senator Thompson for President.

Now, some prolife individuals who are well informed will wonder about Fred Thompson not supporting a prolife amendment, which the GOP has supported for some time.

I've stated before that I think Fred Thompson's federalist approach is the best way to achieve long lasting positive change regarding this matter. Lisa Fabrizio of the American Spectator explains the matter well.

Can one be pro-life and not in favor of a Constitutional Amendment which seeks a federal ban on abortion? The easy answer is that one can and probably should be both. But at this time in our history, the amendment process is, sadly, a pipe dream. Imagine trying to get two-thirds of both houses of our Democratic Congress to even propose such an amendment. Then further fantasize that three-fourths of the states would ratify it in the present political climate. This is an all-or-nothing approach that in all probability would save no lives.

Thompson correctly points out that working for the repeal of Roe v. Wade, then making the fight a state-by-state process, is a much more realistic and feasible goal. A states-rights argument should not only appeal to federalists, but ought to be seen as the best current solution by all who cherish life. I'm with the folks who say that abortion is murder, and in this country, murder and its consequences have always been defined by each individual state. And this is where the battle lines must be drawn.

One reason is that dealing with state legislators would be easier than battling their federal counterparts who are in the grips of lobbyists and other special interest groups; the locals are closer to the people they represent and therefore more accountable to them... (source)

Be sure to read it all.

Fred Thompson, by far, has the most endorsements of large, single issue groups when it comes to the right to life. He also has a realistic plan for moving the country forward and thereby the best chance for actually changing our culture more to valuing life at all stages, and having that change last.

Huckabee - Christian leader?

Of course Mike Huckabee's answer to that question is yes and he makes that an important part of his campaign, at least in the South right now. However, in doing so, he treats those that he targets with some contempt. There is also his past actions which appear to be more about getting along than standing for principle. This is not to say he isn't a Christian, but to those persuaded by this part of his campaign, perhaps the type of Christian he actually is, should be considered.

Peggy Noonan addresses this use of faith in her latest editorial.

I love the cross. The sight of it, the fact of it, saves me, literally and figuratively. But there is a kind of democratic politesse in America, and it has served us well, in which we are happy to profess our faith but don't really hit people over the head with its symbols in an explicitly political setting, such as a campaign commercial, which is what Mr. Huckabee's ad was.

I wound up thinking this: That guy is using the cross so I'll like him. That doesn't tell me what he thinks of Jesus, but it does tell me what he thinks of me. He thinks I'm dim. He thinks I will associate my savior with his candidacy. Bleh.

She notes how this framing of his positions increases the divides in the party and in conservatism.

Mr. Huckabee is clever. He puts forth his policies, such as they are, based on a faith-based understanding of public policy, and if you disagree with his policies, or take a hard shot at them, or at him, he suggests the reason is that you look down on evangelicals. This creates a new fissure in a party already riven by fissures. (source)

This problem will only be magnified in a general election and very much weaken his abilities to win. When we have the very real possibility that the next President will be appointing one perhaps two Supreme Court justices, do we really want to risk having a candidate whose strategy during the primaries is the very strategy that will undermine success at the national level? That's also on top of the rather cynical manipulating use of Christianity being employed by Mike Huckabee, offensive enough on it's own.

But perhaps some Christians are holding on to their prayers, that whatever two or more agree to in prayer, God will provide. I'm not going to get into a theological discussion on prayer here. However, I will note that this Christian seems to have a tendency to get along and move himself forward, rather than stand on principle.

..a luncheon for the ordained Baptist minister was arranged by evangelical Christians. On hand was Judge Paul Pressler, a hero to Southern Baptist Convention reformers. But he was a nonpaying guest who supports Fred Thompson for president.

...Pressler, a former Texas appeals court judge, [has commented] that Huckabee had been a slacker in the war against secularists within the Baptist church.

...More than personality explains why not all his Baptist brethren have signed on the dotted line for Huckabee. He did not join the "conservative resurgence" that successfully rebelled against liberals in the Southern Baptist Convention a generation ago.

Criticism from co-religionists stands apart from criticism by the Club for Growth, the Cato Institute and the Arkansas Eagle Forum of Huckabee's 10 big-government, high-tax years as governor. Because no Republican candidate since Pat Robertson in 1988 has depended so much on support from evangelicals, opposition by Huckabee's fellow Southern Baptists is significant.

[...]

...Fighting to drive the liberals from the temple, Scarborough was badly defeated for president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas while Huckabee embraced the liberal church establishment to become president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention.

Judge Pressler, who led the Southern Baptist conservative resurgence in the late '70s... When Huckabee on Nov. 9 announced the Southern Baptist leaders supporting him, Pressler was not on the list; on Dec. 7, Pressler endorsed Thompson. Pressler is known to be concerned that Huckabee plays to the establishment and would be subservient to the State Department and the New York Times. (source)

Huckabee may make a fine pastor or Sunday school teacher, but fellow Christians, let's keep in mind that we are trying to elect someone to be President of the United States. The skill set for the former, may not be a guarantee of having the abilities for the latter and in the way Huckabee is using those skills, may mean that he doesn't even have the ability to win the general election, or having won, shows that he was not the best person for the job.

With so much at stake in the near future, national security, the rule of law and our borders being secure and the direction of the Supreme Court for the following decades, we must carefully weigh our decisions. Let's not let the mainstream media stroke our pride and in the end only guarantee that the candidate our work and prayers supported was the one that was certain to lose. Even worse, that Mike Huckabee wins because of his Christianity and fails to stand on principle when it comes to border security, the supreme court, foreign relations and other matters important to our future.

Christians may have the ability to make Mike Huckabee the Republican candidate for President and though an extreme long shot, actually win. But to whom much is given, must is to be expected. We need to not be moved by cynical manipulations of our faith and thereby make an historical blunder. I pray that my fellow Christians will think clearly and carefully about the decisions they make in this election.

Fred Thompson on illegal immigration

With Rep. Tom Tancredo out of the race, who is left to stand for the rule of law and strengthen our border security? Rep. Tancredo thinks it's Mitt Romney but I respectfully disagree. I have concern for someone who's positives on the issue consist mostly of late in the game conversion to the issue and then offset by bad judgement resulting in the sanctuary mansion tag being quite apt.

Fred Thompson answering questions on the campaign trail:

...there should be few if any exceptions when it comes to enforcing U.S. immigration laws, or the flow of illegal immigrants would continue.

[...]

...former Tennessee senator said he believes the issue will be resolved through "enforcement by attrition."

Thompson proposes cutting off incentives to illegal immigrants. That means keeping employers from hiring them in the first place, and sealing the borders to keep illegal immigrants going back and forth between jobs and family. He said it also means shutting down sanctuary cities and keeping illegal immigrants from getting college and other breaks.

"Over a period of time, I think the situation will reverse itself," he said. (source, Thanks to Michelle Malkin)

A Fred Thompson type of plan is already showing it's effectiveness at the state level.

NOGALES, Sonora - It's a common scene this time of year: streams of overloaded cars, pickups and vans with U.S. license plates crossing into Mexico for the holidays.

Most are filled with Hispanic families from Arizona and other states on their way to visit relatives south of the border for a few weeks before heading back to the U.S. But this year, the holiday travelers are being joined by scores of families such as Jorge and Liliana Franco, who are driving to Mexico not to visit but to stay - permanently.

Congress' failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform, immigration crackdowns, Arizona's new employer-sanctions law and a sluggish economy have combined to create a climate families such as the Francos no longer find hospitable.

The number returning to Mexico is difficult to calculate, but there is no question that many families are leaving, according to Mexican government officials, local community leaders and immigrants themselves. (source, again thanks to Michelle Malkin)

Remove incentives for coming here and there is no need for deporting them all, which no major pro-law, anti-illegal immigration proponent has pushed for anyway.

The introduction to Fred Thompson's immigration plan:

In the post-9/11 world, immigration is much more of a national security issue. A government that cannot secure its borders and determine who may enter and who may not, fails in a fundamental responsibility. As we take steps to secure our borders and enforce our laws, we must also ensure that our immigration laws and policies advance our national interests in a variety of areas, and that the immigration process itself is as fair, efficient, and effective as possible. (Border Security and Immigration Reform Plan)

Fred Thompson supports proven means to reduce illegal immigration. He's presented his views with more than mere sound bites and without supporting amnesty outright or by foolishness resulting in sanctuary for law breakers. This would be part of the reason that conservative Iowa Congressman Steve King endorsed Thompson. This, among many reasons, is why I still support Fred Thompson for President.

Apparently we have a new ethnic minority

Cynthia McKinney has come out as a green* and completely ignored her own black heritage.

"I am a green" - Cynthia McKinney

At least she still stands against that racist hurricane that attacked New Orleans with it's hateful bigotry. These greens are apparently throwing a party as well. Judging from her statements in a recent video, I hope they don't start buying homes where I live, we don't need the average IQ to go any lower, too many liberal Democrats infesting the area have done enough of that already.

All kidding aside, her declaration as the Green Party candidate is 7 minutes and 24 seconds of foolishness that is so - foolish, that it's nearly beyond the parody capabilities of the Onion. Hopefully such aggressive idiocy isn't contagious.

Have fun, but don't say I didn't warn you. The video is here at Hot Air.

At least we have more entertainment in this election now.

*no actual ethnic minorities were subjected to bigotry by this post

Rep. Jim Moran spells his name incorrectly

Considering the disgusting claim he's made of our military in Iraq, it's quite clear he mistakenly placed an "a" where there should be an "o", and that's being polite. Don't believe me? Look at what he said.

Speaking during the funding debate for U.S. troops Rep. Jim Moran (D-VA), made this statement:

"Sure, there's less violence, but that's because we've ethnically cleansed most of Baghdad." (video here, thanks to Captain Ed)

Stupid, idiotic, hateful and so slanderous as to be an aid to our enemy, and that's on top of being entirely false. It's a shame that politicians place their political scoring and pandering to their supporters on such a high plateau that they say things that could only result in useful propaganda for our enemies.

I also get the impression he's auditioning for the role of a barking moonbat cartoonist, as his blather is on the same level as Ted Rall.

I'm sure those killing our soldiers, innocent Iraqis, and plotting to kill more Americans will soon send Rep. Jim Moran, Democrat, a thank you note for his helpful service to their cause.

Another reason to vote for Fred Thompson

Jeri Thompson looks better in a fireman's hat than any of the other candidates, their wives or *ahem* husband would.

Fred Thompson turns his justifiable (re: Michael Dukakis, etc.) "silly hat rule" into a plus.

Click the image to watch the video. (thanks to HotAir)

Fred Thompson hat

To quote Fred Thompson - "Well you look cute in it".
