Just for grins and giggles and because I can

I'm sure many of you are aware of such online communities as myspace. I have recently been subjected to a kid (LIL D) pestering me about some issues regarding Christianity. Rather than message me privately or bring up the subjects in a Christian group I participate in, he instead, clutters up the comments section of my profile taunting me. So, just because I can, I thought I would let some of my blog readers see a bit of the exchange. Enjoy :-)

LIL D - D for dork?

I'm getting a little tired of you cluttering my comments with your idiocy. If you want to debate you can message me or you can bring up subjects in the Hardcore Christian group. I as well as others will see if what you have to offer passes scrutiny. However, it needs to be much better than what you offer here or some atheists will laugh at you.

For my summation of an infinte causal regress argument go to my public blog here.

As to your refutation - your "argument" in bold, my reply in normal text.

OH Mark dont you understand? The universe is eternal,

Unsupported assertion and the current science says otherwise on top of it.

leaving way for evolution to happen,

Vague assertion. You mean macro or micro, completely natural and undirected or theistic evolution or Intelligent Design? Furthermore, if the age is infinite you have the problem of entropy, unless you are going to admit to the universe not being a closed system, which pretty much shoots naturalism only out the window.

the universe does not need a God.

Again, unsupported assertion. Are you ever going to provide an argument?

Just like you think God is eternal I say the Universe is eternal.

Classic misunderstanding of the argument. Go read the summary at my blog. An uncaused cause is the logical conclusion not an arbitrary assignment.

Dont give me the historical regression argument because just because we dont understant the concepts of infinity does not mean that they do not exist.

We do understand the concepts of infinity that is why the argument stands. Infinity exists fine in concept but cannot exist in the real world due to the problems I point out in my short summary, which is due to our understanding of infinities.

Furthermore, the problems of traversing an infinite series are not because of man's limitations but due to the very properties of infinite sets, which exist independent of man. Just like 2 + 2 still equals 4, before mankind ever developed mathematics.

Man I am going to be the next philosopher... I refuted the infinite regress argument... yay..

No, you only managed to prove how flexible your body is by shoving your head up your ass.

Merry Christmas everyone!

myspace

christmas images

I would say Happy Holidays but the ACLU might get it's knickers in a twist when they realize Holidays means Holy Days.

Main Entry: hol·i·day
Pronunciation: 'hä-l&-"dA, British usually 'hä-l&-dE
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Old English hAligdæg,from hAlig holy + dæg day

Luke 2:10
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

I pray that the blessings of God's Son touch everyone who seeks and that those of us who already believe, find ways to express his love to others this day we celebrate his good tidings and great joy...

Luke 2:11
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Christmas 2005 stock chart comparisons

As Michelle Malkin notes:

Here's what Chicken Little journalism gets you:

NYTIMES STOCK PRICE, 2005

52 Week
High 41.21
Low 26.50

I thought it would be interesting to compare some other stock prices for 2005. You know, the kind that the "hoity-toity" on the East and Left West coasts would probably look down upon, as only us flyover country types participate in such fare.

MCDONALDS STOCK PRICE, 2005

52 Week
High 35.69
Low 27.36

WALMART STOCK PRICE, 2005

52 Week
High 54.60
Low 42.31

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Once again...

Twisted shapes within my soul
mistakes in the past
prevent my being whole
stones that were finally removed
are now in place once again
Why ever truly believe?
when it just brings more pain
If this was not meant to be
how can one dream
that something ever can?
they say faith can move mountains
But this seems not for me
for I am only just a man

Iraq Parliamentary Elections

My prayers for the Iraqis who, yet again, take another step forward with this election. The bravery and joy I see when you vote should be a lesson to all of us who have it so much easier in this country. We complain because we have to get up early before work or that we must choose the lesser of two "evils" or have to deal with bad weather. The contrast to your situation is striking.

You are choosing your government for the next four years in the midst of bombs and the attacks of those who hope that you fail or others who care not if you succeed. You have stepped away from real evil and continue a course that is better than what most countries in the region have chosen to this date.

To quote a line from one of my favorite series of books:

"Further up and further in"

Freedom and self-government are in your reach. May you continue to persevere and be a shining light to others. My heartfelt thanks for what you have managed to date.

My readers should note that Pajamas Media has a special report on the Iraq Parliamentary Elections, featuring Omar of Iraq the Model along with eight other Iraqi citizens from as many provinces. Be sure to check it out.

Let's put that shoe on your foot

How about I shoot you full of drugs and see you how you like it? Certain elements of the medical community are pushing "bias" as a condition needing treatment with drugs.

From Dr. Helen Should Bias be a Mental Illness?

Doctors who treat inmates at the California State Prison outside Sacramento concur: They have diagnosed some forms of racist hatred among inmates and administered antipsychotic drugs.

"We treat racism and homophobia as delusional disorders," said Shama Chaiken, who later became a divisional chief psychologist for the California Department of Corrections, at a meeting of the American Psychiatric Association. "Treatment with antipsychotics does work to reduce these prejudices."

I wonder if those who scream "homophobia!" at every disagreement some of us have with the gay community are going to support this? If they can't see that
This is more than absurd--it is totalitarianism at its worst
as Dr. Helen accurately describes it, then hopefully they can wake up by imagining that idiot "Reverend" Phelps pushing the same garbage on them.

This ends justifies the means mentality reminds me of the uproar, not long ago, over the young girls in the group Prussian Blue singing about white supremacy and racism. Too many believed that was enough to remove them from their parents. While that was in the news, I sent these comments to Eileen Byrne of WLS Radio. The points I made are quite applicable to this drive to treat bias with drugs.

It is interesting to see how evil works to create situations that can be turned against anyone in the future. While the parents views are repulsive, if there is no violence in the home, why is it now ok to regulate thought? Some may console themselves with doing that because, in this case, what the kids are being taught is so terrible; but how do we avoid expanding that to other "unpopular" views in the future or avoid completely subjective views on the matter? Some may be happy with regulating thought now, but some day they may find they are on the receiving end of such treatment. How will they object then?

I've already seen one well-known proponent of Darwinism equate teaching children religion in with mental child abuse. It seems to me that an attempt is being made to set the foundation for a disturbing future.

Yes, hatred is wrong. People like "Reverend" Phelps and racists are wrong. But are we so blinded by their hatred, that we fail to see the horrible foundation we are laying for future generations? Hopefully, enough people, in the right places will begin to think of what may come, if such ideas are not stopped before they bleed their cancer into society. Otherwise, though some in the future may be happy that they are on the side with such power, they will realize, far too late, that such power can also be used against them.

Stupid is as stupid does

Once again we have an example of why the GOP is called the "Stupid Party".

Publish the Barrett report now

The move represents more than just boneheaded politics. It's grossly irresponsible. If the report contains the kind of bombshells that have been hinted at in reports published by The Wall Street Journal and National Review, among others, the public not only has a right to know, Congress has a duty to investigate.

Read the whole thing and don't be surprised if you have a hard time not punching or slapping the next GOP official you come across. The "Stupid Party" is not sufficient for some of these idiots.

Now this is a movie review!

Movie Review: The Chronicles of Narnia

Walden Media’s enchanting “The Chronicles of Narnia” opens tomorrow (December 9), and is worthy of support from anyone, whether conservative or liberal, who believes in classic, humanistic storytelling. Sumptuously produced, intelligently directed and written, “Narnia” is a treat from beginning to end.

Be sure to read all of it.

Be careful out there

There's something called Wikipedia lurking about.

I say this tongue in cheek because I have used the online encyclopedia for information. One has to be careful though because of the very nature of the enterprise. With it's intended structure of anyone contributing and the truth bubbling to the top, it should be no surprise that errors exist or that bias persists on controversial subjects.

The latest problem that comes to light, is of a man that was accused of assassinating President Kennedy.

Snared in the Web of a Wikipedia Liar

ACCORDING to Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, John Seigenthaler Sr. is 78 years old and the former editor of The Tennessean in Nashville. But is that information, or anything else in Mr. Seigenthaler's biography, true? The question arises because Mr. Seigenthaler recently read about himself on Wikipedia and was shocked to learn that he "was thought to have been directly involved in the Kennedy assassinations of both John and his brother Bobby."

So what of those people involved in controversial matters that do not have the time to police this site and enter the process of contesting such entries? The problem is that many consider this source reliable, even on matters that are still mired in rancorous debate. We should keep in mind that while a huge and open collective effort can allow the truth to rise to the top, there are some that care not for the truth. It isn't difficult to encourage those with an adolescent, relative morality mindset to spam such a site to twist particular entries. Who has the time to police such things? Sort of like wondering, who has the time to constantly be attending anti-war or anti-capitalism protests.

Fortunately, Mr. Seigenthaler became aware of the problem. But, how many others, across the world, have been slandered as well? One controversial subject that is not handled well is Intelligent Design. Last I looked at the entry, there wasn't a flag to even indicate the matter is controversial.

The entry contents alone are revealing, considering that this issues is still highly debated. There are four main sections. The Intelligent Design debate section has sub-sections criticizing each defintion of components of ID. There is an entire section criticizing ID consisting of 6 sub-sections. ID proponents replies appear to be limited to endnote links rather than included in the main body. This seems to me to be the equivalent of the dead wood media, having their biased title and opening paragraph above the fold of the page where it can easily be seen on newstands. Never mind that the following paragraphs don't really support the blazing headline.

So, be careful out there. Wikipedia is rather comprehensive, but not all that reliable on controversial matters. You might want to also check to see if you're involved in the Kennedy assassination.

If you feel the ground shaking...

It's just Orwell spinning in his grave. Consider John Kerry's response to the President's speech regarding Iraq.

This debate is not about an artificial timetable for withdrawal. It is about setting a timetable for success.

yeah, duh

Like the President and our military are hoping for defeat. However, this victory will be decided by conditions on the ground, not by dates. If Kerry doesn't get that point by now, then it's a good thing he's not in the military any longer and that he is not commander in chief. Simply removing the word artificial does not change what setting dates means. Do we ignore conditions on the ground and leave because we set a date? If the answer is no we stay until conditions are right to leave, then there is no point in setting a date. If the answer is yes, we leave, then the withdrawal is indeed artificially determined. Simplistic attempts at clever word-smithing do not change this. Kerry seems to have learned the wrong lessons from Orwell's 1984 let alone Vietnam.
