An attack on our southern border - follow up

In a previous post I referenced a news story about a group of armed men that crossed our border with Mexico and forced our National Guard troops to retreat. The armed group stayed briefly, then went back over the border to Mexico. I noted that from this early report, the action appeared to be a probe of some sort.

There may be more or less to this story, than initial reports indicated. Hopefully, information will be forthcoming to settle this in a way that is certain, rather than giving the appearance of a cover up by merely distracting the public.

A rather strong headline from Euphoric Reality:

WORLD EXCLUSIVE: Mexican Gunmen Involved in Arizona Border Incident Actually A Uniformed Mexican Force

The incursion into U.S. territory last week by “Mexican gunmen” was not a chance confrontation between the Arizona National Guard and untrained illegal immigrants, but a deliberate “perimeter probe” by an infantry-trained, uniformed Mexican force, officials say.

Euphoric Reality has learned in exclusive interviews with high-ranking sources within both the Arizona National Guard and the U.S. Border Patrol that the incident the mainstream media calls a “standoff” was in reality a military-style operation, carried out by a paramilitary unit of Mexican men dressed in uniforms, flak jackets, and armed with AK-47s in an apparent operation to probe the border defenses and test the limits of the National Guard troops. Using easily recognizable infantry movement tactics (such as arm and hand signals and flanking maneuvers), the Mexican unit deliberately moved in a military formation across the border from Mexico, while under surveillance by the National Guard and Border Patrol.

The post goes on in great detail concerning Mexican drug cartels and mercenaries working with them. Certainly, there is good reason to be concerned about that, however, Dan Riehl has a different view about this particular incident.

The Recent Border Incursion

...the reports that I've read claim there were only four intruders, so let's not make this look like a Mexican Army invasion, primarily due to this article. via PoliceOne

There are Mexican forces in the area ... fighting drug gangs. They even confiscated weapons from some Mexican police units. I am very much against illegal immigration and for border control issues. But if the Mexican government is actually trying to do something under Calderone, let's be sure of the facts, before we make it worse than it is.

[...]

I notice that the sources for Euphoric Reality claim the intruders were carrying AK-47s. As far as I've been able to determine, the standard infantry weapon for the Mexican military is the Heckler & Koch G3. Photo here at Wikipedia. An AK-47 looks much different, as you can see in this photo. This would seem to call into question that these were official Mexican military units in the area fighting drug gangs. But how well can one distinguish between such firearms with IR imaging devices at no closer than 100 yards?

If they were indeed Mexican troops attempting to do something about drug cartels, there needs to be much better communication with our troops and border patrol. We could have a serious, though unintended incident in the future if something isn't worked out. By not having official information, our troops may also let down their guard, and next time it may actually be drug cartel mercenaries intent on violence.

We need more information about this matter, but we also need a fence and more security on our southern border. As noted in the Euphoric Reality post, several agents have been killed in the last several years. Hopefully, more in our government will start getting serious about the border issue so we can avoid as much as possible, the repeat of such tragedies, as well as, minimize the possibility of something far worse occurring as well.
